Sasha "The Machine" Vujacic Leaving To Europe? WTF

Post#1 » by Rox_Nix_Nox » Fri Jul 25, 2008 3:30 am

I know there was another that got locked. But this could happen and I think we allowed to talk about it.

It's getting serious fellas
LizINK

Mitch needs to step up and get this done.

and I thought this was funny. Some dumb reporter/writer

Mitch Kupchak and the Lakers still have as many as five roster spots to fill and already are on the hook for $75.1 million for only 10 players next season, about $4 million over the luxury-tax threshold. ...

Brent Barry is thought to be Plan B for the Lakers if Vujacic bolts. ...

Link
to that's guys dumb article.

Brent Barry, who owns a home in Hermosa Beach, would have been a great Plan B should Vujacic bolt, but the Houston Rockets signed him two weeks ago. ...

Someone must have emailed him. Embarrassing.. haha

I wouldn't go a step above 4m to get it done. If he wants that extra million a year then so be it. I guess it's back to the drawing board after that.

I would resign Sasha no matter what. He is a key part of our bench. If i were Mitch, I would resign Sasha, whom I think deserves what he is trying to get, and sign Kwame Brown, who IMO is an upgrade over Turiaf overall.

No matter what? There's no way I want Sasha to be a 5m onus on the Bynum deal.

If we're able to replace Sasha cheaply and effectively, re-signing Bynum and Odom will be feasible over the next couple of years.

Well, he might not be worth 4 million... but he has more than doubled his point production (4.3 ppg to 8.8 ppg) from 2006-07 and increased his accuracy (37.3% to 43.7%) from beyond the arc as well. He also plays with a tremendous amount of energy and confidence :D

It would be a mistake IMO to let him just walk away. It's obvious that Sasha wants to stay in LA. Mitch just has to make a reasonable offer thats all. Come on do the right thing... sign The Machine already!!!

4 million is not what's he asked for. He's asked for 5m for 5 or 6 years.

He's asked for the Luke Walton deal. Sorry to display the much hated scenario of the luxury tax but that's essentially paying 6/60 for Buss. He just won't do it.

Yes IMO no matter what as in pay him what he wants, which IMO is a bargain for what he brings. Sasha is one of the better defenders on our team, not mention he compares favorably on defense to most bench players (wing players) in the entire league. I do state that he needs to play 'tougher' defense more. Offensively, he has shown that his 3 has improved, and despite lapses in the playoffs, I have no doubt consistency will keep improving. He is also a capable ballhandler. Sasha brings defense and 3 point shooting off the bench, and that alone IMO deserves the amount that hes asking for.

3 point shooting and some seriously overrated defense (it's maybe 7 out of 10) are not worth 5m a year especially to a team over the luxury tax. He has no ability to get the opponent in foul trouble, he has no ability to drive, his ball handling is surprisingly unimpressive, and he did it in a contract year.

If the day comes that we paid Sasha Vujajic 5m a year and lose Lamar Odom as a backup PF because of it (for 7-8m), I will question Kupchak's logic forever.

If he is going to leave I rather him go to Europe than play of another team in the NBA. Correct me if Im wrong but the lakers would still hold the rights to him until he comes back into the NBA right?

Yep as long as they make him a qualifying offer each off season that he's away.

Yeah he would but only at his last salary he made. But we need more info on this seeing that the cap numbers move every off season.

No it's not just saw report on KCAL saying Sasha is considering it in the next few days. Report is he wants a starting salary of 5 mil, I'd do it hell can't be any worse then the money we pissed away on Luke.

We can not afford to loose the entire bench due to the lux. tax. We lost the heart and soul in Ronny and what is next. Sasha. The Lakers already put up there prices. I bet I am going to pay nose bleed prices that were once good seats.

Cutting players to save a few dollar will turn the Lakers into the Clippers.

Look at it this way, it's more money they can scrape together for Artest.

We need to sign Sasha. He showed glimpses of a guy that's going to be a consistent threat night after night. Let that happen with us not in Europe

look guys this is the same thing that happened with luke. do you guys see a pattern here?

all that needs to happen now is for us to give sasha the MLE or thereabouts for like 4 years and watch him revert to the old sasha next season... then we'll all talk about how he really fell off and mitch blew it and his contract is radioactive...

it's hilarious really... luke was yeast in bread... now ronny and sasha are the heart of this team... i think ive heard it all now...

kobe is the heart of the team and the only reason ronny became ronny and sasha became sasha is because of kobe.

so if you guys want to keep overpaying people that are going to rot on the bench... well, let's just say i'm glad jim buss is in charge...

the irony is that we have pretty much overpaid for EVERYONE on this team the last several seasons aside from Pau.

we didn't get one all star for shaq... we gave up too much for mihm... we gave up too much for kwame... we overpaid kwame, vlad, and luke...

now you guys want to overpay for ronny and sasha?

well, maybe if we didnt have your 0-time all star lamar odom it would happen. think about it.

Rather have that zero time all-star than Luke and Vlad.

Rather use the money saved from not re-signing Turiaf and Vujacic to sign Odom or Artest. As long as we have a core of Kobe, Odom/Artest, Gasol, Bynum we can sign players with the LLE to fill out the bench and still compete for a title. Bench players are overrated.

Odom or Artest > Turiaf, Vujacic
