Monta Ellis re-signed by GS
Deal was reportedly for 6 years and 66 million.
This sets the bar for the rest of the RFA's. I can't see Iguodala talking less than that.

And I can't see us giving him 66 million.
That's roughly the "Phillymax" and no offence to Iguodala but he's far from an Elton Brand.

Well, the Ellis deal was for 6 years so it's an average of 11 mil. Didn't we offer him more than that last year? Wasn't it 5 years and 57 mil?

It was. But after his playoff series, I am VERY uncomfortable giving him a contract starting at 11.5 MILL.

Re: Monta Ellis re-signed by GS
That sets the general market for Iguodala. I don't think the Sixers balk @ 11/year, and I don't think Pelinka has much to negotiate for much higher.
GS lost Davis, and I wasn't sure about Maggette, but they really have had a busy off season, and I like their lineup. I don't think Williams is the long term answer @ PG, but he gives them a true PG to help transition Ellis into the role. Anyone who watched heard Nellie during the interview heard him mention that they 'have to' transition Ellis to the PG role, so they may end up with an Ellis/Jackson/Mag/Harrington/Biedrens lineup. Will the PF/C's they've signed, I do wonder what the plans are for Biedrens and Wright..

5 years 57 million is pretty much the same yearly as 6 years 66 million.
If you all were ok with the 5/57, then what is the difference, except one more year guaranteed?

Monta at 6 yrs/66 million is reasonable. Iguodala shouldn't be paid much more, if more at all.

If I am doing the math right 6 yr/66M w/ 8% raises starts at 9M
9/9.7/10.5/11.3/12.2/13.2=65.9M
9M is well under a starting salary of 11.5M.
I like the idea of a 6 year deal for Iguodala and Lou. Hope this starts the ball rolling for the RFA's.

I disagree. I see Iguodala starting at 10M or more. That would be at least another 7-10M over the course of a 6 year deal.
Starting at 10.5: 10.5/11.3/12.3/13.2/14.3/15.4=77M
I would be happy to see a 6yr/77M deal, or the equivalent 5yr/62M

Hopefully this will make Iguodala realize that he shouldn't be making much more than this. Something like 5 years for 60 mil should do it. Anything more would be overpaying...

Brand got 5/80. That's drastically different than 6 years, 66 million. That's not close to the "phillymax". One's averaging 16 mil per year, one's averaging 11.

Nice try there. It was 79.8 million, not 80 million. Shame on you for trying to pull a fast one.

Please - it was his first real playoff series (I'm not counting when we made the playoffs in 2004 when he was a rookie) - plus he was the focal point of the offense. Just because someone had a bad series doesn't negate his entire season. A 6 yr/66 M contract is far from completely unreasonable when you think that they already offered him a 5 yr/57M deal already. That's actually less on a year to year comparison. So what's the big deal.

Re: Monta Ellis re-signed by GS
Given the Max (the NBA 5th year player one, not the "phillymax") is 5yr/80M, any number in the 5/60's is a far cry from the max. Not exactly a bargain, but its better than the "near max" type deal SF1976 says Iguodala is demanding. Of course its not what he demands that matters if there is no competition.

Re: Monta Ellis re-signed by GS
Well Monta and K. Martin signing deals at $11 million a year locks Dala in. The market is set. If Dala isn't willing to sign a deal at that same yearly number then he should be moved. He has every right to seek however much money he desires, but our front office should not give in to his demands.
Soon the Philadelphia media will turn on Dala if he doesn't get a deal done. The market is clearly set.

Not that I mean it in a contentious way, because everyone has a right to have their own opinion, but I don't think I've ever seen something that I agreed with Dedicated 76ers Fan on, lol.
I'm fine with giving Iguodala 11.5 per year.

1) That rookie started all 82 playoff games
2) It does when that playoff series revealed what Andre Iguodala is and what he isn't. Iguodala needs to develop 2 things to justify being handed Monta Ellis's contract. He needs some SERIOUS handles and he needs a legitimate first step.
Without those, there's no way I pay him in the class of Ellis and Howard. I hope Ed's still talking to Houston about Tmac.

There is not 1 GM in the NBA who would pay ME more than Iggy. Iggy is a better defender, shooter and facilitator. When you put Ellis and Howard in the same calss you are only showing ignorance.

Re: Monta Ellis re-signed by GS
Monta Ellis has holes in his game as well (please see the 23% 3pt shooting percentage), yet he warrants a deal @ 11/year? He's an undersized 2g, who has to prove he can handle the point, with the ultimate goal of winning (not being the highest scoring PG in the league)...Iguodala has to show he can handle the 2g spot, which isn't as big a transition given he played mostly on the perimeter last season...similar scenarios.
It's amazing to me the limited view we tend to have of the Sixers players when compared to others, and more specifically the matchup issues the Sixers as a team faced in the playoffs. The increased depth/length inside and development of Thad should make a huge difference for the Sixers this season, and would have created a whole different story in the Detroit series when it came to how they matched up with Iguodala. He's not a perfect player, but in the grand scheme of the league, he's as valuable to a winning franchise as Ellis is. The key will be, can Ellis be more like Isaiah (winning PG that can score) than Iverson (scoring little guard) and/or can Iguodala improve his jumper as he ages (please see Michael Jordon's 3pt shooting percentages over time...Iguodala is not Jordan, but Jordan's outside shot improved drastically through his career...he was 26 the first time he shot over 30% from 3) and handle the 2g spot. We won't know that for either player until a few years into these contracts, but neither are a sure thing.
