QB: Kellen Clemens vs. Chad Pennington
-- Kellen is going to need to turn heads because we all know Chad is tough as nails and is a huge competitor. He has all the intangibles, just the lack of arm strength keeps him from becoming a top flight QB. Kellen has all the physical skills, size and arm strength but lacks footwork, decision making and most importantly experience. The Jets badly want Kellen to win but I think Chad will win this battle.
HB: Thomas Jones/Leon Washington/Jesse Chatman
-- TJ will get his 300 carries. Leon will get his touches and Chatman will get his catches out of the backfield. I love the depth of this position. We dont have a top flight back but TJ is probably a top 15 back in the league and behind our new offensive line, this depth will be the key to our offense!
FB: Tony Richardson
-- Under the radar acquisition this year. He'll likely get a good amount of playing time protecting the QB since the Baker situation is unclear. He's a pro bowl veteran who gets the job done!
TE: Dustin Keller/Bubba Franks/Jason Pociask
-- Baker situation is pretty much controlled by the jets because he is on the PUP and his contract isn't guaranteed. He'll likely be traded. Bubba Franks is going to have to play a bigger role then expected because Keller isn't an every down TE yet because of his lack of blocking skill. Keller is going to be huge for us because he can stretch the field and create so many mismatches. WR speed in a nice bulky TE body. Can't wait to see this guy play.
WR: Coles/Cotchery -- Slot: Stuckey vs. Smith
-- Coles and Cotch are obviously are 1-2 punch. Both terrific possession recievers but neither burners. Cotchery is becoming better and better every year and is just a solid solid player who specializes in the YAC department.Stuckey is a burner we need but can he stay healthy? Smith was average last year and made a ton of mistakes. I think Stuckey is going to win the battle and become our 3rd wide reciever while smith is the special teams extraordinare.
OLine: Brick/Faneca/Mangold/Moore/Woody
-- Talk about upgrades. Faneca was the biggest FA addition any team had this year. He'll make the entire offensive line better and he's NASTY. Pete Kendall was nasty but Faneca is NASTY plus has 5 times more talent level. Brick is in tremendous shape according to jetsblog and Mangold as we know is a top flight center. Moore is solid and woody is a big upgrade over Clement. We lack depth here though... Guys like Bender and Montgomery have to be ready.
Defense I'll post later. Cant wait... TC starts tomrorow. Last year at hofstra.

Re: Training Camp Battles / Depth Chart
2 things to note
1. TJ was a top 10 back. last year he was number 10 exactly in total yards.
2. Laverneous Coles is a burner... he ran a 4.19 40 when he enter the L. I know he may not run that now but its gotta be pretty close he's a former track star.

Re: Training Camp Battles / Depth Chart
LC is not a burner anymore. He's a couple hits away from being dead. All of last year massive hits and 2006, how can anyone forget Chad nearly killing him against Miami when Zach Thomas crushed him? Cotch and Coles are both very good possession recievers.
And it's sounding more and more like Baker will be a part of the team, and that improves the depth at the TE position.
Chad said that he played with a 2 torn ligaments in his ankle and played much better then Kellen did in day 1 of training camp.
Gholston was also signed!!!

Re: Training Camp Battles / Depth Chart
The only battle I really see happening is the Quarter back spot, thats it. Jones, Coles are easily the number one guy at their positions, they are the epitome of pride and are the veterans. Keller I believe is going to be the slot guy while starting at tight end, then based on packages they will be shifting a whole bunch.

I swear its not even a comp between chad n kellen. now if it was chad n farve then i could see it.
i dont know why some of us jets fans get a hard on for clemens he hasn't done anything to prove he can play the game. Yes he has a great arm but that's about it. O well he can run a bit but he's not michael vick.

Re: Training Camp Battles / Depth Chart
Also supposedly Chad changed his mechanics to get a better zip on his throws, because of this you kinda expect Kellen to take advantage and yet Chad still won the first day of TC. IMO this is no longer a competition, just give Chad the job.
And no one is getting a hard on for Kellen, us Jets fans just want him to prove his worth in TC because like Jose said Chad's arm strength won't get us far, we need Kellen's physical tools in order for us to achieve our full potential.
