This signing reeks of a trade to me. I fully expect Morris Almond and possibly Matt Harpring to be moved by the start of the season, because the MUST give CJ consiten minutes now in order to justify this signing.

Awesome. I am excited about this, Morris Almond is not.

CJ is going to be a good player in this league. I truly believe that. This is not as big an investment as first reported as well because its only a 3 year deal with 4th team option. So if we get nothing from CJ by year three he is off the books.

I just hope to G O D that we can trade away either AK or Harp.

I'm glad Jazz match. Miles' a good asset.
I hope this mean all of front office minds are focused on build a trade to part ways with Kirilenko.

This tells me the Jazz do not have AK in their long-term plan, and obviously not Harpring. The Hart move cleared up the extra money to make this move. Perhaps the Jazz are scared from being burned in the past by not matching (like Mo Williams).

In any case, I think its a good move to keep Miles. Letting him walk for nothing in return is just bad business. He's a good prospect.

This creates a lot of mystery with the SF position in my mind. Obviously there is AK and Harpring at SF, but Miles, Brewer, and Korver all can play SF. The logjam is often directed at SG, but a move at SF would open up just as much playing time, if not more. Shift Korver to SF (where he played in Phily) and he's better matched defensively, and then all of a sudden you have minutes for Miles and maybe even Almond. Or let Miles step into a SF position and then have Almond fill the role that Miles did this year. Lots of options.

I don't know how anyone can say we were burned on Mo Williams. A decent PG who is a chucker and would have made us mediocre for the foreseeable future.

SG and SF are basically the same thing anyway. We always say we're overloaded at the "swing" position. It's all just semantics really, since Korver, Brewer, Miles, and Almond can all play both positions.

Almond is obviously the odd man out here; this news had to really depress him.

WOW, I must admit, I was wrong. I thought there was NO way we were matching.

I hope that this is the Jazz's next move:
Successful Trade Scenario
Congratulations on a successful trade.

Due to Utah and Indiana being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Utah and Indiana had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Here is the annoucement from the Jazz website. "Miles will be available via conference call in the Salt Lake Community College press room at 6:30 p.m. tonight, prior to the Utah Jazz game vs. the Dallas Mavericks in the finale of the 2008 Rocky Mountain Revue."

I couldn't have been more wrong.

Well, I guess CJ must be a monster in practice. He MUST be for the Jazz to match this offer.

Me <------- WRONG

lol, props to all of you that said he'd be retained. I still can't believe it.

Or is this the trade that needs to happen?:

Successful Trade Scenario
Congratulations on a successful trade.

Due to Utah and Cleveland being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Utah and Cleveland had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Cleveland Trade Breakdown
Change in Team Outlook: 0.0 ppg, 0.0 rpg, and 0.0 apg.
Incoming Players

SG: C.J. Miles, Kyle Korver, Morris Almond
SF: Ronnie Brewer, Matt Harpring, Yoroslav Korolev
PF: Carlos Boozer, Paul Millsap, Kosta Koufos/Jarron Collins
C: Mehmet Okur, Ben Wallace, Kyrylo Fesenko

This trade almost makes too much sense. It would give the Jazz the back up, defensive center they need who has an expiring contract. It would also move C.J. into the starting line up as SG and move Ronnie Brewer over to his natural position of SF. The Cavaliers would get an above average player to play along side Lebron James. Andrei would get to play his natural position of PF. Here is Cleveland's possible two deep:
PG: Daniel Gibson, Damon Jones
SG: Sasha Pavlovic, Devin Brown?
SF: Lebron James, Wally Szczerbiak
PF: Andrei Kirilenko, Joe Smith
C: Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Anderson Varejao

With Wallace's contract expiring, the Jazz would get the cap room that they need to re-sign Boozer and Okur when they option out after this season.

That trade is actually kind of interesting if Ben Wallace's contract is shorter than AK's.

A trade has to be in the works. No way the Jazz keep CJ with Almond playing well in the RMR.

Some 2 or 3 is leaving.

I would love AK, but the Jazz would have to include a 1st rounder for me to want to do that deal. AK's contract is so large that extra year is huge and his value isn't that great right now even though I know he's a great player.

I don't think there's any chance the Cavs would think about a trade like that though even though with a 1st rounder I would do it. There's no way Utah would include a 1st so that isn't a realistic deal.
much respect to the 2011-2012 champions, Miami Heat, well deserved

Trading AK is too big of a move for the Jazz and I don't think they are willing to do it just yet unless its for someone that they feel makes them better. I think with the CJ re-signing, the players that should be concern are KK, Harpring and Almond. KK's contract is up next year, so the Jazz must decide whether to bring him back, let him go or trade him for value while they can. Right now I think the Jazz need to decide between KK or Almond, unless they can unload Harpring's contract so they can keep both of them which would be my preference.
