Let's enjoy the ride for now...

I, like everyone else, have concerns about this franchise's future. Will Boozer bolt? What will it actually take to keep him? How about Memo? What will Deron think if one or both of them leave? What will Deron think if they both stay, and then we don't have money to improve the team? Is AK's contract unmovable, and will it keep us from retaining Boozer and Memo? How much does Harpring really have left in the tank? When are we finally going to get that big man we've been waiting for? Is it Fes or Koufos, or will they be busts? Will we ever learn to play defense? Did matching Miles just wreck our cap flexibility?

Slooooooooooow down, my friends.

Obviously, these are all real and legitimate concerns. And, as we should be, we've been discussing them. But, and I've done this on many an occasion with my Baltimore Orioles, if you spend all of your sport-related energy worrying about future problems, sometimes it can impact your enjoyment of your team's present.

So...

Yeah, we've got all of those things to worry about... but right now, we're about to go into a season with Deron Williams, Carlos Boozer, Memo Okur, C.J. Miles, Ronnie Brewer, Kyle Korver, Matt Harpring, Paul Millsap, Brevin Knight, Kosta Koufos, Kyrylo Fesenko, and Ronnie Price.

And that's pretty cool, isn't it?

This ought to be a hell of season, if you ask me. And I'm going to try to make sure I enjoy it for what it is, because there'll never be another 2008-2009 season ever again.

Did I get a little too sentimental there? A little too maudlin? Perhaps, but I love this game; I love this team; and I can't wait to watch them.

I hear ya. I'm a little worried about the future but with Deron we'll always have a decent team even if it's not full of big names.

This may or may not be the last year with the starting 5 as we know them. But with CJ back, this team is deep. An injury at the 2,3 and 4, and we keep chuggin'. (The 1 and 5, not so much.) I think this team can still make the playoffs even with the loss of one of those guys. This roster without another change will be a fun team to watch.

Everyone talks 'a couple years' down the road. But let's enjoy the now.

With possible opt outs, Booze, Okur, and Korver have every reason to put up career numbers. You can add Brew and Millsap for the same reasons. AK would love to prove he's worth keeping around. We still don't know what we've got in Almond or Fes, and what about that Koufos guy? Anybody worried that Deron's satisfied just making the playoffs?

Maybe next year something has to give, but this year will be fun to be a Jazz fan.
