Andrei will carry the flag for Russia

Post#1 » by DelaneyRudd » Fri Jul 25, 2008 11:25 pm

http://lenta.ru/news/2008/07/25/bearer/ (In Russian--Wiki said this was the proof)

A neat honor for Andrei to carry his nations flag in the Olympics. While we can all argue about his place in the mix of this team I have no doubt he is a good guy and a good part of Salt Lake's community.

Good for him, he's a national hero for them. NBA All-Star, Olympian, Euroleague Champ...

I am happy for him.

Congrats AK, that's a great honor! We need you to watch some of those You Tube videos of you tearing it up back in the day so next season you can come back with a vengeance!

We really need him to explode in the olympics to raise his trade value.

If he has a GREAT tourney we could get quite a bit for him. hopefully deng.

Why am I a homer?

And we didn't shake hands, and it wasn't like we were pissing next to eachother. I was walking in as he was washing his hands.

It would have been cooler if you had the courage to say, "Nice dick!"

Lol, no way in hell I'd ever say that. Maybe if it was Deron. :)

This really isn't that suprising at all. My dad went to Russia and he was wearing an AK jersey and he got a TON of attention for it.

AK is the MJ of Russia, so this really isn't a big suprise.

My dad actually said the opposite when he went to visit his family back in Russia last year. He said very few people actually knew who AK was. The main focus in Russia is still hockey and soccer. Maybe my dad was just in the wrong part of town or something.

Nonetheless, the Russian Olympic Committee clearly thought he was worthy, so Im happy for AK. From what I read he seems VERY confident and poised to try and help Russia get a medal in this olympics. Good luck to him!

And did you guys see this as a side story...poor sharapova haha

I bet it is different if you are wearing a jersey since people who do know will let you know, instead of asking random people who may or may not know him.

How 'bout that, eh. Good on him.

You know, the Spurs and Raptors are widely touted as NBA foster homes for foreign players, but not even they can boast two international, Olympics flag-bearers.
