Jason Williams the next one to Europe ?

Post#1 » by CaptainFanchini » Fri Jul 25, 2008 11:25 am

Italian rumors talk about Jason Williams as possible new PG of Virtus Bologna (former team of Manu Ginobili and Michael "sugar" Ray Richardson, to understand).

The player want 2,5 milions $ per season to come in Italy, while Bologna's owner Sabatini offer 1,5/2 at max ... Williams asked for 2-3 weeks to make his choice ...
There's also Maccabi Tel Aviv offering a contract to him.

Oh, and also Jason Kidd said that in the near future he could finish his career in Italy :D

The times of McAdoo, Gervin, Dakwins, 'Nique, Laimbeer, Barry Carroll, Richardson, Shaw etc playing here don't seem so far away any more

About Maccabi Tel Aviv I can see they are pretty much out of the running.
They are not willing to pay the kind of money he wants.

He'd be a better fit in Golden State. Run down the floor, chuck a three, gamble for steals on defense.

I don't think he can pwn anything in Europe but it'll be fun to watch him in Euroleague.

If he starts doing his and1 moves over there (will get called for travel) he could get endorsements.

And no NBA team wants Williams next season so he'll probably be the next to sign
a 10 million dollar contract in Europe.

^oh really? where'd you get that from?

Plenty of teams would be willing to give him the LLE to play as their back-up PG. -- He's still capable of running a team, and he'd be a bargain @ around $1M-1.5M.

If he gets an offer significantly higher than what any NBA team will offer, i think he should go. He could get endorsements if he returns to his White Chocolate and1 style. He's a good 3 pt shooter, solid court-vision and a great ballhandler. He could be an mvp-type player there.

Besides, he was a solid contributor on a championship team. He's already gotten his ring so the whole 'need to win a championship' thing doesnt factor here.

If Milt Palacio was the player of the month in Italy, this guy would be the G.O.A.T.

It would be a smart move for him. His knees are pretty much shot and he cant really guard NBA level pointguards anymore. Besides, all those long 2's he pulls up for now become 3-pointers.

Maccabi disparately needs a PG, he'll be a good fit there.
