RANDOM IDEA: Childress on 2012 Olympic Team?
This idea randomly came to me watching the game tonight--do you think the national basketball team should target Childress for the next cycle of international play? He'd actually have experience with Euroball as opposed to playing it in the summer for a few weeks; he's ridiculously efficient (2nd in TS%, I think?); he doesn't mind coming off the bench. Could be a great fit for the kind of squad we're building. Thoughts?

No, even Prince is head and shoulders above him.

Not the depth chart, just who I expect to be on the 2012 team
Dwight/Oden/Bynum
Amare/Al Jef/Horford or Aldridge?
LeBron/Carmelo/Beasley
Kobe (last hurrah)/Wade/3pt shooter
Paul/Williams/Rose
Just don't see any room for him. He's a few tiers below them in talent level, despite the lack of experience.

Like Luther Head on the USA Select Team I have to ask... Is this some kind of flipping joke?

Re: RANDOM IDEA: Childress on 2012 Olympic Team?
Interesting idea. I could see him being considered, depending on how he does over in Europe and how he develops his game over the next few years.
I would say it is probably a long shot for him to make the roster with Carmelo Anthony, Tayshaun Prince, and LeBron James slotted in at his position.
He'll also be competing against Rudy Gay, Kevin Durant, and Caron Butler.
A guy I definitely think gets a look for the next squad is David West.

You know Kobe isn't 30 yet. He could be playing in 2016 if he has the desire.

Players age more based on minutes played than age...
Damn

As mentioned, Childress isn't good enough. That said, wtf is with the "send the top 15 NBA scorers" mentality being so alive and well?

No Bosh? Did you forget he was drafted the same year as LBJ/wade/melo ?

Aldridge over Bosh (who's already on the Olympic squad, and better than Aldridge)?

Probably. Not a lock, but not unlikely by any means.

I must be in the minority who thinks very few of this year's players will be on the 2012 team. Another 3 year commitment? Playing (or at least practicing) 6-8 summer's in a row? I just don't see it happening.

Re: RANDOM IDEA: Childress on 2012 Olympic Team?
This and the next Olympics are in markets that the NBA wants in. 2016 may well be in the USA. If 2016 ends up in continental Europe, South America or Canada a bunch of players will pass. If it's in Africa or the Middle East I don't know what will come of it.

You know most top players don't just sit on their butt all off season, and are in fact in the gym honing their skills etc. Its not that big of a leap.
