Pats add Lamont Jordan

Post#1 » by Celtics_Champs » Sat Jul 26, 2008 7:18 pm

Rotoworld has it. Adam Schefter reports.

Nice! They made that decision fast, he was just released yesterday. I assume Lamont and Sammy will be fighting for the backup spot. Unless they decide to carry and extra back.

Solid depth pick up. I'm not sure how many carries he will get though, I thought morris did a great job last season before he got hurt.

so total the pats got

1. maroney
2. morris
3. faulk (for 3rd down scenarios)

so where will jordan fit in?

Either way, the most prolific offense in the NFL last season (and in nfl history), only gets stronger with this move.

Either Jordan, Faulk, or Morris is not going to make this team unless there is an injury. Jordan is most likely the most complete of the three. He can do what Morris and Faulk can do. Morris was very good before he got hurt last year. And Kevin Faulk is well Kevin Faulk. Guy is a very valuable player for the team. All three are pretty close in age.

I would say morris is the odd man out.

A kevin faulk cut would be very surprising.

I like the Jordan signing. He was a bit miscast as a feature back with the Raiders but he’s a great depth back, like mffl05 said.

I really don’t see both Morris and Jordan sticking, though. Faulk is probably a given, since he's the best receiver and blitz-blocker of the bunch.

Mike Reiss seems to think all five backs (Morris/Maroney/Jordan/Faulk/Evans) are going to make the team at the expense of a TE. I don't know if I'd necessarily agree with him, given the tendency for the Pats to leave a blocking TE at home to help out Light against speed rushers along with using Watson as a receiver. That would leave the team dangerously thin at TE.

Then again, Evans looks like he could come in as a blocking back on those situations so...

Avaliable Source told me that they just paid Morris a big contract, before the draft. So expect him to be in the line up.

The patriots need an all purpose back so thats why Jordan was signed
Morris will handle the straight up the gut running
Maroney will hit the outsides with no problem

Remember the Patriots success has come with the dual backs tandum
Mount Rushmore should have Obama, Powell, Wade, and Riley
