2009 Draft Ideas

Post#1 » by dtownmavs41 » Sat Jul 26, 2008 10:00 pm

Right now on NBADraft.net it has the mavs selecting Connor Atchley from Texas, with Tyler Hansbrough going the pick before. I believe next years draft will be pretty weak past the first 5-10 picks. So if the mavs are looking for a project, or a player that has very good upside I think they should look at Ricky Rubio from Spain. I'm not sure if he is eligible for next years draft or for 2010 but either way he is a special player in Europe that could be a pg of the future for the mavs.

I believe that the mavs will give Jason Kidd an extension either at the end of the season or somewhere throughout the season so this would be a good pick to learn behind him. Draftexpress has him listed as the top player in next years draft but I'm not sure how NBA teams would feel drafting him that high. I think the mavs should do what they can to move up and get this guy.

If it is close to the trade deadline and we aren't going to make the playoffs or look worse than we did this year we should trade either Howard or JKidd and try to move into the top 5 to get him.

Ya I know its early but it looks like we aren't going to do anything else this offseason so it's just a look ahead. I would love if a year from now we are talking about how to repeat and not worrying about the draft but I'm trying to be realistic.

id love rubio, we should pull a san antonio w/dirk to try and get him

but yea there's no real superstar as of now going into next years draft, 2 guys i really like is hakeem thabeet from UCONN 7'3 C that pulled out of the draft this year, but his offensive game is getting better and better and he's a force defensively, big big kid and the other guy i like is rubio

im gonna guess both are top 5 picks next year so i doubt we'll get either of them unless we do some serious tanking

Rubio's gonna be special, and i think he will be the number one overall pick, so i don't think we'll have a chance to get him, unfortunately. But i don't mind if we win the championship. [/dreaming]

i must know why? curry will be at best at the end of the top 10 and id be willing to bet more like in the late teens to 20's, he's great and college but im not sure many scouts are expecting him to amount to much (no matter how good his tourney games have been)

curry and hansborough will be the guys next year to go late in the 1st round to cause dickie v or the other pro-college guys to get pissed off and rail about the raw freshmen or the foreigners

Maybe because European talent is way overrated in drafts. Seriously, this guy is getting the same hype that Bargnani, Yi, Darko, etc. all got and they have all been busts. Its not worth the risk. The leagues competetion levels are nothing alike.

id say its a little early to call bargnani and yi busts 2 years into the league. bargnani will probably never become what people thought he'd be but he can probably be serviceable, that was a weak draft anyways

rubio's been playing in the top euro league for a couple years now and is already one of the best defensive players in the league (over 2 or 3 steals per game, cant remember) he's very long and he's a good distributor with an improving jump shot. this kid will play for spain in the upcoming olympics beating out current pro sergio rodriguez for a spot. not sure if he'll play at all but id look for him if they show spain play on tv

have u not heard about rubio's championship game in a U-16 championship? he had 52 points 24 boards and 12 assists to go along with 7 steals. he also hit a game tying 3 pointer to send the game into double OT where his team won and he was named MVP of the tourney

i like stephen curry's game but he's looking more and more like a combo guard and i just dont think he'll ever amount to that much in this league
