Josh Smith to Suns?
Any chance that the western conference "powerhouse" the hawks are considering a sign-and-trade with is the suns?
Does Josh play center at all? If so, it would be interesting to have Amare & Josh on the court together, especially when Shaq's done. Hawks could be looking for guards after losing Childress...maybe Barbs is on the move??
This could all be BS since we need a PG and probably aren't looking for PFs...thought the western conference "powerhouse" note in the rumors was interesting since there's only about 3 or 4, including the Suns

Re: Josh Smith to Suns?
We have no trade chips to offer, so I'm guessing it's LA(who can offer Odom). He's not a 5 unless we're still playing midget-ball, but he could play the 4 and Amare could slide down to the 5 in some situations. Sadly, we don't have anything of value we can give up other than Barbosa.

I think it's DAL, maybe offering Howard + Terry/Bass...
I'd love him here but they're not going to take Barbs, Diaw and Tucker are they?

Re: Josh Smith to Suns?
LA could field a pretty fierce starting five if that were the case.
PG - Fisher
SG - Bryant
SF - Smith
PF - Gasol
C - Bynum
Not bad.
As far as Dallas is concerned, they just need to acquire a decent scoring center. Dampier and Diop just can't provide enough of an offensive threat to make teams respect them down low. Kidd can't do anything to change that, but he get's the blame. I thought the Shaq trades they were speculated in made much more sense for them than for us. I just don't see Smith getting them over the hump.

Re: Josh Smith to Suns?
I was just on the Hawks board and someone who seems to be in on things over there (a la dbdynasty) says that Claxton will be included. Which got me to thinking...
Barbosa + Diaw for Smith + Claxton?
Not ideal as far as our PG situation is concerned, but it addresses it. You get to put Smith next to Stoudemire....
It is really hard to imagine the Suns being the Western Conf. team in on all of this, but you never know.

the two offers that were mentioned will bring in a lot less than you'd want or expect.
both proposed deals would involve claxton.

Re: Josh Smith to Suns?
The other thing with acquiring Smith is that he's pretty much a PF, not an SF, so I don't know where we'd play him.
Still, I'd be ridiculously happy if we got him somehow(even though I love Doris and LB)

Re: Josh Smith to Suns?
^ Exactly my point. He wouldn't work unless we are getting rid of Shaq, AND going back the the Mike D system, which is not happening. Josh Smith CANNOT play the SF successfully. His rebounding, blocking, and defensive abilities drop TREMENDOUSLY when he moves down to the SF spot. Amare/Smith/Hill/Bell/Nash isnt a bad starting five, but what happens to SHAQ? Can Amare hold the Center better now? Would we be able to net ourselves some shooters through FA along with Sam Cassel returning?
Too many question marks if such a trade were to go down, so no, there is a 0% possibility we are that 'western powerhouse.'
I think its more of both the Clippers, Lakers and Warriors. All 3 have what it takes to land a guy like Smith. Hawks seemed very interested in acquiring Camby, so Clippers have a chance. Lakers have Odom, although it would mean still keeping Horford at the C where he isnt as comfortable. Warriors have 2 young prospects in Bellineli and Wright to offer along with Harrington, so yeah. In the East, there's no doubt in my mind there can only be one of 2 teams that have any "powerhouse" qualities and can offer something to the Hawks. Orlando and Detriot. Detriot's offer would look something like Tayshaun + Amir Johnson + Maxiell (or Afflalo) for Smith. Orlando would have to do a Turk + Cook + filler (reddick) for Smith.
I would love if Orlando got this guy.. imagine a frontcourt of Howard/Smith/Lewis with a solid backcourt in Pietrus and Nelson. Easily one of the top 5 teams in the league. Only one question. Who takes the clutch scoring role? You decide

Re: Josh Smith to Suns?
I don't think there'd be too much of a problem...you could just play Smith like 35+ mpg and he could play the 3 with Amare and Shaq and then the 4 whenever the bench guys come in, but it's still infeasible.

Re: Josh Smith to Suns?
No, it would be a huge problem. We'd lose our only bench scorer (although we did add Barnes) who is probably our only 3pt threat outside of Bell/Nash for a guy that isnt even fit to play the 3 position. Never happening... Id much rather take on Kenny Thomas and get Ron Artest than have Josh Smith here.

Re: Josh Smith to Suns?
This guy is the second coming of Tim Thomas, but more athletic and less shooting ability. He had a good year numbers wise when it was a contract year. Yes, his numbers have been improving, but no way I would give up anything significant for him. Contrary of what sd1306 says, the guy has the athleticism to play the 3 and 4. But he does not have the PF game either. He’s like many players that are tweeners, such as TT and Diaw.
I don’t think the suns would be in on the talks for this cat. Lakers, nah. They need a SF. You think MD is making a push for him to come to NY?

And I think the East team is DET and involves some of their young bucks (either Afflalo + Amir or Maxiell) and one of Tayshaun or Sheed...remember he had that 1 game for them haha

^Actually I thought of that too. Spurs could offer Manu...but not much else, and does that shift Bowen to the 2?

I don't think the Spurs would ever trade Schnozz.

Re: Josh Smith to Suns?
Manu has way to big of a nose to be moving to Atlanta, it would take him too long to pack it up in his suitcase.
As for the western conference team, I think the only possibility is Dallas, giving up Howard in the trade. I would really like to have him hear and get rid of Diaw somehow, but I honestly dont think its gonna happen. Although i didnt think we were gonna pull the trigger on Barnes AND get him for so little of money

Re: Josh Smith to Suns?
At this point, ATL management is simply looking to unload Claxton. They know that they are going to lose Smith. If they don't move him, he'll take the qualifying offer and bolt next year.
If they can get a team interest in a S&T and unload Claxton, they will. I bet it isn't even an attractive offer either.
The more I have though about it, a Diaw for Smith and Claxton deal makes sense. Okay, we know we got Diaw from them, but he has shown he can play since and they need a solid PF. In a S&T Smith would be BYC (i believe) and Claxtons contract gets the number close. Diaw would essentially only cost them 3 million over the next couple of seasons if you factor in the unloading of Claxton's deal and they have cap space because of not resigning Smith.
