Re-do one draft for your team

Post#1 » by ponder276 » Mon Jul 28, 2008 12:38 am

Re-do one recent draft for your team, and post the team you think you would have today. Obviously this is just for fun.

For example, I'll re-do the 2005 draft for the Toronto Raptors:
- Instead of taking Charlie Villanueva (7th overall), I'll go with Andrew Bynum (selected 10th overall)
- Instead of taking Joey Graham (16th overall), I'll go with Danny Granger (selected 17th overall)
- Instead of taking Roko Ukic (41st overall), I'll go with Louis Williams (selected 45th overall)
- Instead of taking Uros Slokar (58th overall), I'll go with Kelenna Azubuike (undrafted)

Since we didn't draft Villanueva, the TJ trade couldn't have happened, and then without TJ, the JO trade couldn't have happened either. Obviously there would have been ton of other compounding effects, but I'll ignore them because that just gets too messy. The team today would be something like:

PG - Jose Calderon/Louis Williams
SG - Anthony Parker/Kelenna Azubuike
SF - Danny Granger/Jamario Moon
PF - Chris Bosh/Andrea Bargnani/Kris Humphries
C - Andrew Bynum/Roy Hibbert

^^Agree that was a blunder for the Blazers.

Though we didn't turn out too badly.

2004 NBA draft

With the 10th pick the Cleveland Cavaliers pick Al Jefferson.

....Fast forward to the end of the night.

Everyone's really suprised projected lottery pick Luke Jackson goes undrafted!

Cavs are sitting on two trophy's right now. The funny thing is if Ferry had been GM at the time that would probably have been the guy he picked. JJ Hickson though is a similar mold.

I'm guessing he's a Boston fan talking about Len Bias

For the Magic i'd probably re-do the 2001.

15: Zach Randolph
22: Gilbert Arenas/Tony Parker/Gerald Wallace
32: Mehmet Okur

or 1998
12: Rashard Lewis
13: Al Harrington
15: Ricky Davis/Cuttino Mobely

or 2000

5: Mike Miller
10: Hedo Turkoglu
13: Michael Redd

Well the OP said "recent drafts," which I assume means later 90s on.

Otherwise that's the end all, top choice, winner.

With the 8th pick in the 2004-2005 NBA Draft, the Toronto Raptors select Andre Iguodala.

2001 NBA Draft

Instead of taking Kwame Brown with the #1 overall selection, we take Pau Gasol.

Arenas
Butler
Jamison
Gasol
Haywood

Though the 2002 NBA Draft could work as well.

Instead of taking Ared Effries or Juan Dixon, we take Carlos Boozer.

With the 2nd pick in the 1996 NBA draft the Toronto Raptors select:

Kobe Bryant FTW!

That's easy.

Charlotte trades the 5th (Raymond Felton) and 13th (Sean May) picks in the 2005 NBA draft to Portland, and we draft Chris Paul.

Yes, that deal was on the table for us to accept, but Bickerstaff figured we'd get more mileage out of Raymond Felton and Sean May (who has played like four games in three years).

I don't know the year but the Cavs took Diop instead of Joe Johnson. Now that's a bad pick.

Since none of the 2003 draft picks are on the roster...
Pistons select #2 Dwyane Wade, #25 Josh Howard, and #60 Marquis Daniels.
Darko turned into Rodney Stuckey, and Rodney Stuckey is a poor man's Wade.
Josh Howard could be a super Arron Afflalo, and Daniels could be a third string utility man.

I don't know what repercussions this would have on the present day roster (the re-signing of Chauncey or Rip or extension of Tayshaun), but even Wade/Daniels/Howard alone could be a competent starting backcourt.

SG: Vince Carter/Louis Williams/ CDR
SF: Danny Granger/Bobby Simmons/Jarvis Hayes
PF: Yi Jianlian/Eduardo Najera/ Sean Williams/
C: Josh Boone/Brook Lopez

Cut Maurice Ager

Right draft, wrong situation.

Houston agrees to trade Moses Malone to Portland for Clyde Drexler and the #2 pick. Draft Hakeem Olajuwon and Michael Jordan.

Dream, Glide, MJ? Hellooooooooooo dynasty.

Utah Jazz

2004 NBA Draft

#14) Al Jefferson instead of Kris Humphries (This way we don't have to give a ton of money to Booz)
#16) Kevin Martin instead of Kirk Snyder (We get our future 2 guard)
