Hawks sign Randolph Morris

Post#1 » by fo_o_fo_404 » Sun Jul 27, 2008 10:51 pm

According to a VERY reliable source I ran into today at Philips Arena, the Hawks have signed free agent Randolph Morris to a two year minimum deal today.

This is a decent signing....but we should all be concerned with the direction this "Josh Smith signing" is heading!

But nonetheless, the signing of Morris will give Horford the freedom to play at his normal position for once.

Maybe for 10 min./game.

A good signing nonetheless.

I like giving Randolph Morris a shot at the league minimum, but I figure this means no Kwame Brown and I thought he'd be a more instant contributor of the bench on the defensive end.

Cheaper=better for ASG, I guess.

Morris also has a little more upside since he's 4 years younger.

Good deal. I think most would have preferred Kwame but maybe Randolph can show good strides.

Agreed, very nice signing. Hopefully the terms were not on par with whatever Kwame's agent was asking, and they can get one more free agent in tow.

Sure hoping S&T and QO aren't the only options Smoove has left.

This should give him the opportunity to prove himself. I like this deal because of the money it saves us, but it's making me very nervous that all these signings that we've mad have all been the "cheaper" options. Hopefully we are just making room for Smith. I'm not gonna lie, I wanted Kwame Brown instead of Morris, but I'll take Morris as long as we paid him the minimum.

atl_fan and uga_dawgs24 is right. Morris has more upside and can still improve his game considering his age.

Good siging if its true because Randolph is big enough to guard centers and still young enough to improve. We must re-sign Smoove or all of these signings pointless.

I mentioned it would probably be best to pursue him because we could probably get him for the minimum. Now, I just hope his work ethic is strong and he has the will to want to have a productive career. He should feel more comfortable now that he's playing back home!

With ZaZa and now Morris, does this close the door on signing Kwame?

It appears it was mentioned yesterday by Sekou.

ON THE VERGE: There hasn’t been a whole lot of chatter about Randolph Morris since he made an appearance at the Hawks’ mini-camp at Philips Arena.

But several of my spies contend that he’s set to join the Hawks’ roster for this upcoming season (on a two-year, minimum deal that would allow the Hawks to bolster their frontcourt rotation significantly).

i don't think this is good news, because it means that Kwame will not be sign..... i hope the coaching staff where able to evaluate both Kwame and Morris and signed the better of the two.

Morris is a terrible, terrible player and may have the slowest feet I've ever seen of any player in the NBA. That said, he's young so he has potential, but I'm not excited by this.

Morris and evans dont make up the lose of Childress. I would be pretty disapointed if we got worse this offseason.

He's the 3rd center. 4th if you consider Jones a center.

For the minimum, it's a good deal.

Morris is extremely slow and flat footed but he is strong and has a soft touch aroudn the basket.

He can be a good backup center.

i dont really know waht to think cuz childress was the best 6th man in the league..but we did need more bench players that good play godo minutes, so its a neegative that childress is gone but its goood that were getting some quality bench players...its just depressing that j smoove isnt signed yet
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

Is there any chance that we might sign Kwame in addition to Morris? I would think that would be one big man too many though unless we are planning on trading Zaza's expiring contract.

Does this sign mean Solo's days here are numbered?

probably, but he still has a chance to stay on the team if he finally shows up.
