Mystery team offers 08' 1st rounder for Turner

Post#1 » by SugarRay34 » Fri Apr 27, 2007 6:35 pm

John Clayton just reported that a team that is unspecified has offered San Diego a 2008 1st rounder for Michael Turner. He said the Chargers are seriously considering it. Also said that he believes its either the Bills, Packers, or Titans. Thoughts on this. Maybe TT is trying for that 1 last run this year

It's not us. Sounds like a Bills move.

If Sherman were our GM I would say with 100 % certainty it is us.

But with Ted I am pretty sure it is not, and for that I am happy. I hate trading future 1sts for whatever reason. We are an injury away (especially with this tough schedule) from ending up 4-12 or worse and that would be a horrible deal.

I could see Tennessee doing it because they may want to take pressure off of Vince so his legs can stay fresh.

Tennessee....but that makes me think they believe the Packers will be taking Lynch....

We're gonna have a tough time next year with our schedule.

While I love Turner and think he could be the next Ahman Green, offering up a 2008 first is a bad move.

I would MUCH rather have Turner than Lynch.

IF you agree - how would trading our 1st be harmful?

IF you think Lynch is better - well I do not agree but OK.

IF you think another player is better that WILL be there at 16 - well maybe. Depends on who.

IF you think trading down and getting more picks is better (as I do except for Turner) than I understand.

IF you think trading UP and giving up many picks to get Peterson is better than just giving up our 1st for Turner - your crazy.

However I do NOT see TT trading for Turner. NOT his MO. Hope he trades down.

Well its next years 1st so if you think we might struggle next year because of our hard schedule and we end up 4-12 or 5-11 then its a disaster of a trade because we could end up with a top 5 pick next year in which McFadden, Slaton etc come out.

While I wouldn't be on board with dealing #16 for Turner unless we're getting their 2nd back, I'm much more in favor of that than our 2008 pick. That thing is gonna be top 10.

Sorry did not realize we were talking bout next years 1st. Then I agree.

However believe Chargers want a pick in THIS YEAR's draft or a player as either will help with thier Super Bowl push THIS YEAR.

Smith has said he'd take a 2008 pick.

Thanks DB. Can always count on you to be on top of it.

Just got back from a week of healing in Sedona, AZ. So not yet current on my 2nd favorite and current home team Chargers.

I agree completely. I'm not a Packer fan, but it comes down to who you think would make a bigger impact. I think Turner would be much better, less of a risk, and not nearly as much of a health/head case risk.

Absolutely do not believe TT would do that.

BUT IF he did it would mean he is committed to doing it this year!

I mean imagine getting Turner and still having entire draft picks?

getting Moss for a 3rd and change?

Have Turner and Moss and still have #16 and 2nd?

Get an impact CB and TE (or DL as DrugBust wants) in rounds 1 & 2
plus a FB in round 4 and we'd be right up there against Chicago.

Wait wait - Absolutely do not believe TT would do that.

I can't believe that TT would trade next years' #1 pick ... there's about as much chance of that as him trading up in a draft. :-)

I also don't buy into the "next years' picks are worth one round less than this years'" philosophy (i.e. A 1st rounder next year is worth a 2nd rounder this year). That may be true for a coach/GM who might not be here next year, but Bobby Beathard got himself into BIG trouble doing that kind of stuff when with the Chargers.

A first rounder is too much to give up for a guy who will be unrestricted next year and hasn't proven himself.

Clayton just said he was able to confirm that the Bills are not the team in on this deal and are no longer in any trade talks with SD for Turner.

Hmmmmmm. Maybe TT goes against the grain here. If we do it Im praying we just end up 11-5 or 12-4 next year so we dont really regret it

The all knowing 'Arrigo' has spilled the beans that the Titans have been confirmed to have offered the Chargers their 08 1st round pick for Turner. Take it for what it's worth 7:52 CST...

Who is Arrigo? Is he that "inside guy" on Packers Chatters or is that a different guy? If so, what is that guys name?

Yeah that's him - he posts a lot of places, but that is where his podcast resides.
