If the Rangers really are shopping him around (I don't buy it), they'd be idiots to sell that low on him this fast. Besides, the Yankees' catching issues are more short-term than long-term... so Salty doesn't really fit the bill.

Re: Saltalamacchia on the block?
we're shopping laird moreso then him, salty will cost you a helluva lot more then allan horne, like a major league ready pitcher w/big potential (id love to get hughes for salty and a big prospect of ours, but i doubt cashman would oblige)
i just saw posada's out for the year, id try and go after him (and jd's not going to get low balled like ive seen the yankees do in the past)

Re: Saltalamacchia on the block?
The Yankees wouldn't deal Hughes for Santana, no way they deal him now for a catcher who in split time over two years in the majors has a line of .254/.318/.394, even if you add in another big prospect. I'd rather take slightly less offensive production from Molina with arguably the best defense behind the plate in the majors. And I don't think the Yanks are going out to look for a longterm fix at catcher due to the abundance of catching prospects in the lower levels of the minors (although they are still years away).
The Rangers don't want to sell low on Salty, but they don't really have a choice now with what Max Ramirez has been doing this year. They feel that he has surpassed Salty as their catcher of the future, and they want to dump Salty now before Ramirez is able to take over full time and really crush and value Salty has. They will try to get a lot for him just because he was the centerpiece of the Tex deal, but Salty's value simply is not that high anymore. They will have to settle for less, and they will do so because Ramirez is pretty close to being ready.

Re: Saltalamacchia on the block?
well i prefaced the hughes "trade" with a comment that daniels wont trade salty unless he's getting a high quality major league starter, daniels isnt stupid and he's not going to sell low on him. i know it's crazy to think we'd get hughes but i doubt daniels would settle for some of your lesser prospects
just for the same reason that cashman wont trade hughes b/c he didnt trade him for santanna, salty wont go b/c he was the key to the teixeira deal (at least until neftali feliz and/or elvis andrus prove they're ready)
and about the max ramirez thing, you're really clueless, he's the weakest glove out of all our catchers and it's pretty much been said since we traded for him that he'll be moved from C or be a dh/backup C. so i dont know where u got your info on how he's passed up salty, if that was the case saltalamacchia would have been sent down instead of max ramirez this past weekend

Re: Saltalamacchia on the block?
If Salty is really on the block as it sounds, then it makes perfect sense for them to send down Ramirez and give the time to Salty to build his value back up to where it was a year ago. Ramirez's glove may be terrible, but Davis has 1B locked up completely. And the Rangers aren't going to make Ramirez a full time DH at his current age just yet and will try to have him catch first. For that to happen, Salty has to be dealt. But for Salty to be dealt, they are going to want to bring his value back up...and for that to happen, Ramirez has to be sent down so Salty can get more ABs and games behind the plate.
Its not being clueless or being right, thats my opinion and speculation because Salty has been in trade rumors. So thats how I see it breaking down is Salty really is on the market, and I think its reasonable. Again, I'm not trying to pass this along as fact, but my opinion if the Rangers really are trying to trade Salty.
EDIT:
When I say Ramirez has surpassed Salty, I mean longterm. Ramirez only has 42 ABs past AA and they are all in the majors, so he doesn't have much experience in the higher levels of pro baseball.

Re: Saltalamacchia on the block?
im tellin ya ramirez is not highly thought of as a defensive catcher, he'll eventually be moved off there as long as he's a ranger and we keep one of the other 3 C's. he'll dh as long as salty or laird or teagarden is also on the team
o and for the record, max is older then salty
and once again, im not saying the rangers arent trying to trade him but it'll take a hell of an offer to get him
