LA Clippers: Should they Re-locate?

Post#1 » by Blazing_royale » Mon Jul 28, 2008 7:53 pm

The La Clippers franchise has been what i would call a curse, a team that has yet to win "swat" after reading what Elton Brand had said about his reason leaving this franchise

We have our own city; we're not sharing it with the Lakers. Los Angeles is definitely a Lakers' town, and with all their success they deserve it."

it could be a problem in the futurre and Lakers are pretty dam historic franchise. Anytime someone mentions Los Angeles in basketball terms, its always going to be the Lakers and not some team called the Clippers. I don't think players would wanna live under this shadow as well.

What are your thoughts?

I've always been shocked they never moved to Anaheim, seemed to be a good fit and they could have made better strides to escape the Lakers shadow.

San Diego or San Jose could work too.

They came from San Diego to LA so the wealthy LA crowd would not have to drive far to see an NBA game. They figured they could capitalize on the millions of people in LA and fill up Staples every night to see Clipper games. However, they were dead wrong, the only time Staples fills up for a Clipper game is when the Lakers are blowing them out 4 times a year.

They have had more than enough opportunity to move to Anaheim, but their reasoning remains the same. It's too far from the LA crowd and they won't sell tickets.

I think the opposite is true though, they might have a more dedicated fanbase in Anaheim since they would be THEIR team, and not the crappier team in LA no one cares about.

GET THEM OUT OF MY ARENA!!!

I care about them and would care a lot more if Sterling would finally get out of the picture because he is a despicable person. It seems that San Diego would be a good place for them, but they moved to LA because they didn't make much $ in SD apparently. I could see playing at the pond in Anaheim as well. However, I think Sterling will just stand pat and stay in Staples

Send them to Seattle.

I've never understood why they are in LA.

the clippers don't have problems drawing fans in LA. even during a horrible injury riddled season when all their best players missed a huge number of games, they ranked 18th in attendance by % (lakers ranked 11th). last yr the clips were 11th and the yr before they were 14th, 16th, 16th, and 15th in 02-03. they're basically a middle of the pack team despite their history of losing and little brother status. they don't have any trouble drawing fans and are much better off than other teams.

I have never been a fan of a city having two teams, in any sport. No matter the size. It just doesn't make sense. There are plenty of places with hungry sports fans that just want to be able to say they have a team.

Wait for the OKC results. I truly feel it is going to boom in revenue and open the eyes of a lot of owners and quiet the critics.

Either the Clippers or Grizzlies should move to Seattle. It's better than having another expansion team.

yes, Anaheim.

it is close enough that they don't alienate fans, but they are far enough away to create a separate fan base.

The farthest they'll move is Anaheim. The LA TV market is just too big to give up for a market as small as Seattle. Seattle in the 2000 census had ~560 thousand people, with ~3.3 million in the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue area. LA City had 3.7 million, and metropolitan area has ~13 million.

Giant TV market, cheap rent, and more supportive fans. Only the Knicks, Bulls and Heat drew bigger home crowds (in terms of % of capacity) than the Clippers with a worse record. Why in the world would they want to go to Seattle, where voters just finished kicking out the last team?

As for Brand, he's just trading one shadow for another. Instead of Kobe and the Lakers, he'll play 2nd fiddle to McNabb and the Eagles.

They should definitely move to Anaheim. LA is dominated by the Lakers, the Clippers are an afterthought. Anaheim would give them their own fan base and their few die hard fans in LA would still be able to see their games.

I don't think the NBA is considering Vegas right now, bc Stern wanted Vegas to abolish betting on NBA games if a team moved to Vegas, and bookies make too much money on that to give it up. Also I'm sure the Donaghy betting scandal has not endeared Las Vegas to the commissioner too much. IMO having gambling on games in your home city is too much of a temptation for some of the idiot players we have in the NBA.

I just never got why they play in the same building. What if the Clippers won the Chip one year. Where would they hang the banner. They should either move to Anaheim or just move to Seattle and become the Seattle Supersonics and just get rid of the Clippers all together.

I can't stand Stern. Everytime something bad happens in the league, he has something to do behind it. Last year they had the all star game at Las Vegas. I'm so sure, eventually he's going to take another small market team and relocate them in Sin City.
