Is Stefanski Listening To Us?

Post#1 » by STChaser » Tue Jul 29, 2008 1:09 am

Obviously, I realize that this is not the case. However, I have to admit that it's really strange how almost all of the personnel moves I had hoped for came true. It started before Stefanski took the helm to be honest, when we drafted Thaddeus Young. I then wanted Speights long before taking him became the popular choice and all the draft predictions had us selecting him. Sure enough, we draft Speights. I know that many, including myself were hoping for Rush to sign here and sure enough, that happened too. Now my final request from this Sixers Genie would be the departure of WG for either a backup 3 or a backup 5 with legitimate size, who could at least put a body on Howard or Bynum. But even if this doesn't happen, I have to say that I'm more than happy with the moves made in the last two years.

Maybe he just understands the game and knows what is best for the team, like the fans do.

STChaser... you somehow managed to leave out the part about him going and getting ELTON BRAND! Sure, Rush and Speights are nice but let's not forget the main reason we all have faith in Ed right now.

Also... if he's really listening to me (AKA us) then he's working out a deal for Michael Redd right now.

Yep.

Brand was obvious if he were willing to come here. Check

Needed the best outside shooter you could get with the minimum. Check

Needed an extra point guard at the end of the bench. Check

It was in our best interest to draft a big man since we are loaded with swingmen. check

He is not trying to outsmart himself.

How strange is it to know that the front office is competent and will do their jobs as well as their options will allow?

its a fact that some nba personell DOES look at these boards. Does our gm, who knows, but it sure seems like it. We all wanted brand top choice, got him. We all wanted rush out of the best that was left, looks like it may happen. I know we arnt REALGMs, but it looks like we are doin somethin right

I purposely left that one out  ....I was actually pushing for Josh Smith. Regardless, I still approve 100% with the move to acquire Brand.

TGP:

After watching him go 6-for-8 from downtown on Friday, I am more and more on the Iggy S&T for Redd bandwagon...but I still would feel more comfortable making a big move like that once we know who the PG of the future is...which is why a deal like that may not happen until next summer.

How would you guys rate this line up so far?

PGs: Andre Miller/Louis Williams/Royal Ivey
SGs: Andre Igoudala/Kareem Rush/Willie Green/Louis Williams/Royal Ivey
SFs: Thaddeus Young/Andre Iguodala/Kareem Rush
PFs: Elton Brand/Mareese Speights/Jason Smith/Reggie Evans
Cs: Samuel Dalembert/Mareese Speights/Jason Smith
Mario Hezonja. Sixers4lyfe. The 2015 Draft is critical for our future..

This lineup is great with the exception of the 5. Sam is an above average 5 in this league BUT he cannot guard against 5's with more girth. He's still going to be a liability against Howard or Bynum and even though Brand is solid, he doesn't have the height to contend against these taller 5's in my opinion. Maybe we can get by with Jason Smith for the time being but at some point, we're going to have to address this issue.

The lineup is much better, and you do make a good point on the big man matchups. The overall depth up front should help this...one more big who is a true center (physically) would be huge. Unless you have a truly dominant big (ie Shaq, Duncan) you need to have as many quality bigs as possible.

If Stefanski reads these board, he should be fired immediately. That being said, I'm happy with all the moves he's made this off season. I was praying Speights falls to 16 and we nabbed him and Stefanski did that because he was the best player at 16. He didn't try to outsmart anyone and took the highest rated player available to him.

He navigated craftily to clear up enough space to land Brand when everyone believed Brand returning to LA was a done deal. I'll give him an A+ there for creativity and hubris.

He signed two role players for contract they deserved - minimum - and both fit a need - one as a 3rd PG who can play defense and be a good locker room guy - a bigger, younger version of Kevin Ollie. The other a deep reserve who can shoot and spread the floor - something we clearly needed.

Now we still need to add another swingman - either a SF/SG or a SF/PF and a big bodied C. Hopefully Stefanski fills those needs as well.

Curious to see if he's able to move either Green or Evans and what he does with Miller, but that will likely happen in season. For now, we have two more bodies to add.

Looking at Sam's history of foul trouble. Our backup options to covering opposing centers are Elton Brand, Evans, Smith, and Speights.

Brand and Evans obviously are more suited to cover 4's. Speights is a rook so I wouldn't count on him just yet and Smith might not be a great option. It would be nice to give Cheeks a big body who can defend.

Somebody mentioned maybe Elson might be available at the minimum, but he will likely hold out for a while to see if he can get better money.

Zo wants to finish his career in Miami and with his health probably isn't an option.

One of my all-time favorite players is Ratliff but I'm assuming he is done. I imagine he could give you a few minutes a game of defense as good as any other realistic option for the minimum though.

Magloire couldn't even play for the Nets last year.

Maybe Adonal Foyle could give you a few minutes of defense off the bench.

Obviously slim-pickins when it comes to big men at the minimum.

Zo is in Miami or he'll retire. Maybe Orlando. Can't see him leaving Florida.

Looks like Clippers are looking at Elson. Rumors are that several teams would be willing to give him the LLE.

Ratliff would be a nice pick up for the minimum, but I'm not sure he wants to play anymore.

Harrison could be a decent option.

I was hoping for one of the younger bigs like DeAndre Jordan or McGee. Maybe we wait until next year and see if we can draft a big to eventually take Sam's place.

i forget where i saw this michael redd thing before but seeing it again, i have to address it... im suprised at your desire to trade iggy and evans for him. what about the defense and hustle we would lose? i think it would be terrible.
