Sean Williams available?

Post#1 » by CarolinaCash » Tue Jul 29, 2008 4:59 am

According to the wiretap below Sean Williams is available from the Nets. They let go of another young player in Marcus Williams for very little......don't know what they are doing. Kristic is going to Russia also. I would love to get Sean Williams......what would we have to give up? He provides the rebounding and shot blocking we need.

I'd do that deal in a heartbeat. Williams fell off their radar in the later stages of last season. He is said to need motivation and provide consistent effort. I say he was a rookie on a bad team who hit the wall, and needs a quality teaching coach to maximize his potential. GET SEAN WILLIAMS!

If they are going to get rid of both Williamses something is suspicious. Both had some character flaws during their draft years.

I'm not sure what we would with Ajinça, Davidson, Hollins and S. Willimas. Chemistry aside I would do this for Hollins and May. But I would be worried what kind of person he really is.

i would roll out the red carpet for sean williams if we could get him. i know may is being counted on to man the 4 in addition to the high hopes on davidson. i love davidson and hope he can turn into our starter at the 4, but i still think he needs at least another year of adjusting to the learning curve in the nba. as for may, he has given me know confidence in that he will stay healthy all year and fill that much needed talented starting pf that we have so desperately hoped for. i'd ship may + filler (future 2nd rounder, hollins, etc.), though i'd like to hold onto davidson. plus, williams and duds played together at bc, so maybe they could rekindle their chemistry. after locking up eo50, drafting a need and taking a flier on a player with a huge ceiling, getting williams would be viewed as a tremendous offseason.

Character issues aside (Larry Brown did reign 'Sheed in though), if the Bobcats could get a fair deal for him...why the heck not?

May straight up for Williams does not work as May's salary is close to 2.6M while Williams is 1.55M. It would require filler on our part or a more complex deal involving 2 players from each team.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Why? I understand its a bit of a risk, but unless the Bobcats give up a whole lot to get him..I can't see any problem.

well, i guess if he came for free or at the cost of something like hollins or whatever, then fine.

i just have concerns about a guy who was given a second (or third) chance last year in the draft, after all his well publicized problems at BC, and it still appears that he doesnt get it. i could be wrong, as i dont really know why he has fallen out of favor w/ the nets, but my guess is he has a crap work ethic and a crap attitude or is dumber than an oven mit or all three. i definitely wouldnt trade ammo for him and if may shows any remote signs of recovery i wouldnt trade him for williams either. mays knees are no more a question mark than williams' ability to stay in the league, imo.

I don't know much about him but i wonder why Nets are shopping him around. I don't mind to trade Hollins or May (trade checker aside) for him for on court value. But at first I would really like to know what we would be risking by this move. I don't care if he fails on court and won't be in the league. But if there is any chance that he is a malcontent I would be aware. Hey Dudley should be interviewed by FO to find out - he knows him.

I would like to get rid of Hollins in this trade. Like I said - possible quartet of underweight big men prospects (Ajinça, Davidson, Hollins, S. Williams) seems a bit of odd surplus of these types on one team roster, so I guess someone should be traded away (I think I would trade only Hollins for Williams straigh up, if bigger deal would occur, then maybe someone else, but i think we see more value in 135 or JerMario then other teams.

If the Nets traded Sean Williams for Sean May or Adam Morrison I would kill someone.

The way the Nets make moves, you might want to hire your lawyer now to save the trouble.

haha, for some reason the Nets have had a jones for May since he was drafted - regardless of injury.

Guy like him scare me a bit......

It´s obvious at a glance the talent he has. and yet, a lot of teams seems to want nothing to do with him. It says to me he must be something terrible in the locker-room or super-humanly lazy.

I would take a chance on a guy with character issues over a guy with injuries any day.

the differnce is Sheed never had "character issues" . He is an emotional nut on the court, but NEVER had off the court problems, and that is what LB does not tolerate

I guess my comparison isn't perfect. But 'Sheed is a guy who chucked a basketball at a Blazer teammate during a practice. I think it was at Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje or Aryvdas Sabonis.

I think the better question is would you take a chance on a Sean Williams versus a guy with nagging injuries (McMay)? Is Williams more of a character issue, or maybe just a guy who came in as a rookie, played pretty well, then didn't follow through on practice habits, or maybe hit a rookie wall mentally or physically? I'd prefer to take my chances with Chris Wilcox, who I think can be a very good player in the right system and with the right coach (LB). But I'd also take Williams over May.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Josh Powell just got cut by the Clips. He'd be "free" at least.

http://clipperblog.com/index.php?itemid=400

Powell is a monster rebounder who, according to Givnoy, is "a freak athlete" who "left N.C. State too early and would've been a Top 20 picks had he stayed in school another year." Powell is a technically sound player with a nice mid-range jumper. "There's a reason that the best scouting teams in Europe keep giving him offers," says Givony. While he's doesn't exactly have a traditional back-to-the-basket game, Powell is a heady pick-and-roll player who can "play off other guys," according to Givony. "He hasn't gotten the playing time he needs to develop."

Any NC State fans with an opinion?
