What should we do about filling out the roster?

Why just to lose him this offseason anyway? We are paying luxary tax now and adding Nocioni and Gooden only adds maybe 1 million more. Also this pair can do EVERYTHING that odom can and we can still lose salary next summer when gooden expires while finding our perfect SF option.

I like odom too but I'm not emotionally attatched. Aside from KOBE, PAU, and BYNUM I am up for whatever fits. We know odom will not have magically gained a mid range or 3-ball by this season, and aside from passing, rebounding, and being a nice guy what else does he bring that the two coming in dont have? Our whole team can pass and gooden covers odoms boards and noci can spread the floor and DEFEND. Odom has had FOUR YEARS to make his stamp on this franchise.

just because odom isn't traded now doesn't mean he can't be traded later, like at the deadline to someone who wants an expiring

As Nice as Evans sounds the Lakers didn't want to give Ronny 4 mill a year to be a backup PF why would they trade for Evans to do the same thing and he makes 5 mill a year. To me Sean Williams is the answer to that hole in the frontcourt hopefully the Lakers can get him. Outside that if the Lakers can find a take for Vlad for a couple of picks I think that should close this offseason. I think the Lakers want to tryout this big frontcourt theory before they make another major move involving Odom.

Ultimately I think we'll be fine at point, barring for major, long tenured injuries. Sasha, Kobe and Coby Karl can split the time to cover at point during possible temporary injuries to Fisher and Farmar. I would have loved to add Lindsey Hunter to our roster but at least we'll be OK without any additions. I would actually love to see Karl getting time as a backup point guard. I actually think he has the type of smarts, hops and game that could ultimately develop into a Harper style player later in his career.

At the three, I would have loved to see a trade of SF Radmanovic for a defensive beast hustle player — a Ryan Gomes, improving our chances to bang up Paul Pierce in the next year's finals, should we get there again.

At the four/five spot, I would have loved to add Kurt Thomas for the MLE, but bringing back Mbenga would be decent and cheap insurance at the five. A healthy Zo would be perfect. The four spot should be well covered, assuming that we stay healthy. Gasol, Odom, Mihm, Radman, Luke should be depth enough.

All in all, I think we'll be fine if we stay put. I've always been of the philosophy that we shouldn't make any trades unless it undoubtedly makes us better. Adding Yue and Crawford should set us up for becoming a legit contender in creating a steal trade before the trade deadline. We have so many tradable pieces it's not even funny. Let's be patient with our assets. Odom, Radmanovic, Luke, Mbenga, Mihm are strong pieces to use in a trade with a bombing team with a disgruntled impact player.

I'm on the Brian Skinner bandwagon, espeically sense he'll he fairly cheap. Wouldn't mind Mbenga if he put in serious work/time and became a gym rat.

I've been thinking about Skinner too. He really seemed to punk our guys when we played him. Before the Shaq trade, he was averaging 4 blocks a game against us (in 3 games). I'd be down.

I like Josh Powells game but the Lakers don't need a 4th tweener forward. If one of those speculated Odom deals goes down or somehow a Vlad/Luke was moved then, yes to Powell. If he was a PF/C at 1 mil.... ok.

Yeah, we already have enough tweeners.. but this guy is a tweener in the PF, C positions. He could instantly be the backup behind Bynum, Pau.

Considering our situation, does anyone believe we should look to add another point guard to our system? Signing Delonte West or Jannero Pargo would give us another shooter that could help spread the floor, not to mention keep Farmar from getting stagnant, like after the Crittenton trade.

That said, we're pretty stacked at small forward, and think we can keep it as is. Even if Odom doesn't necessarily pan out as well as hoped, we still have Ariza and Walton off the bench, and I'm sure Odom with play some power forward throughout the season.

Which brings me our fourth spot situation. I really believe that we should dump Radmanovich and Mihm and see if we can pull in a David Lee, Chris Wilcox, Charlie Villanueva or Ike Diogu. Heck, throw in the 2012 pick and even some cash if lands any of them but we desperately need a backup power forward. If that pans out and we can dump Mihm and Rad, we can then resign Mbenga for cheap, and if need be, even Theo Ratliff for safety.

If not, dumping Mihm and Rad don't work, we can still at least resign Mbenga and look to sign a Melvin Ely or Josh Powell, at least for a legit backup for Gasol.
