Vote On-line for OKC's name and mascot

Post#1 » by Rod700 » Tue Jul 29, 2008 3:05 pm

If I don't have something to distract me from the situation with Smoove, I'm going to go crazy. Below is a link to vote for the OKC's name and mascot. The thunder is the only one that looks remotely credible to me based on the way they've presented it on that site. I'm not sure what the obsession with the song "Pump up the Jam" is though.

Helping you out with some diversions to get you away from the slow grind of negotiations.

The most detailed song parody I've seen.

^^^They all sound stupid. The Bison? The Barons with snoopy in an aviator's cap? As dumb as "the thunder" sounds, it at least has some balls to it. Why don't they go with something like cyclones or mustangs or anything else besides what they have here?

I could live with the Bison or Barons... I just don't like the conceptual, single unit names i.e. Magic, Heat etc... a good rule of thumb if you can't touch it don't use it as a team name. I've read these really are the 5 names they are considering, the rest of the article and suggestions (songs, mascots, dancers) are obviously jokes.

How about the OKC "At least we're not the Hawks."

For OKC's sake, I hope it is the Barons. That is the only cool sounding name. They could have a baron (maybe red) as there logo, depending on there new colors.

Im pretty sure "wind" is the worst name Ive ever heard in my life. That sounds like a WNBA name, so does "energy" The Barons is the only decent one, the Bisons is okay. I really dont like "thunder" either. imo the "thunder" just lacks creativity. but its a whole lot better than the energy or the wind. the wind? how they even consider that?

I picked Barons a few days ago. The only decent one.

Hawks beat the Wind
Hawks beat the Thunder
Hawks beat the Bison
Hawks beat the Barons
Hawks beat the Energy
Hawks beat the Marshalls

I like the Wind as in "Josh Smith and the Hawks beat the Wind as they fly over the OKC.

How about, "After a hard fought game, the Hawks eventually break the wind." I can see ESPN having a field day with fart jokes.

More like...

Wind blows away Hawks
Thunder rattles Hawks
Bison stampede Hawks
Barons lord it over Hawks
Energy blacks Hawks out
Hawks arrested by Marshalls

I still have issues with Marshals being misspelled with 2 l's unless they are named after Penny Marshall or the as the Yahoo! guy indicated a discount retailer. I guess it is better than the OKC Big Lots.

"HAWKS BREAK WIND, 99-87"
"HAWKS FIND BARGAIN AT MARSHALLS: MARVIN TRADED FOR DURANT"

I've been suggesting Energy was gonna be it for awhile, given the owner's interests in the power and energy fields (and eliminating Power since KD can't be called "Power forward Kevin Durant"). I'd love to think owners aren't so into themselves as to create wacky team names, but then again I'm still running around Charlotte looking to find a living "Bob"cat.

Despite my suspicions, it's probably Thunder ("The O.C.T.") and the other names are just a ruse to create needless speculation among fans.

Ya know, that might be true. If you can't come up with a good name, you can always come up with crapier names that make it sound better in comparison.

I remember when Colorado got the Hockey team and they floated the name Colorado Xtreme. After that people LOVED the name Avalanche.
