Starting PF Trade Thread - Ideas?
So nopw that we're keeping our center, EO50, for 6 years and big money, we need a starting-level PF to fit beside him and get us to the playoffs. It's going to take a trade as there are no 4's left in free agency worthy of a full MLE. So what are your deals?
I propose a Morrison trade back to his home brings for a quality 4: Channing Frye and Sergio Rodriguez. Works in Trade Checker:
http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.ph ... id=4741450
Portland gets it's native son (sort of) and a SF shooter to add to their arsenal. We get our starter at the 4 and another reserve PG with more experience than Weaver. Portland can afford to do without Frye and they've got a log-jam at PG: Bayless is soon to occupy the backcourt with Roy (as Blake will eventually be coming off the bench).
Probably many other deals out there. Wilcox and Sean Williams supposedly on the block also.

I hope the Portland fans aren't trolling our board today. They won't like this one at all.

They should've drafted Joakim Noah last year and Brandon Roy the year before if they had the Bobcats would be pretty damn good by now.

i say, just stay put another year and roll with what we have up front. between okafor, hollins, davidson, may, wallace and dudley i think we can cover the pf spot sufficiently for the next year. no need to panic now. at worst wait until the trade deadline.

Why don't we just sign Herrmann and call it a summer?

I do miss me some Fabio.
He's cheap, and might be very coachable.
Hmm...

Re: Starting PF Trade Thread - Ideas?
I think the big question is whether this theoretical deal would involve Wallace or not. If Wallace is in there, this guy obviously needs to be very good... somebody who can really shoulder the load on offense like Boozer or Odom.
Without that, we're dealing with the Channing Fryes and Charlie Vs of the world. Hopefully it's someone like those two, in that they match well with Okafor on offense (can hit jump shots, basically), and also are young enough to potentially get better than they are now.
Fats: I don't think standing pat until the deadline is a realistic option. 1) By then it could very well be too late. This year at the deadline we were 19-35, we would have had to almost win out to make the playoffs at that point. 2) Just on principle, I don't see any reason to wait to get some sort of answer at the position. I'm not saying we just throw out Crash for whatever we can get, but at the very least a small deal or a random half-decent free agent needs to happen before opening day.

Re: Starting PF Trade Thread - Ideas?
I don't think we should involve any of our players in a trade for a mediocre PF (like Frye, CV, Lee, etc) we just have to pick up a player whom the other team likes with our MLE, and trade that player on the same day for the PF we need.
For example IF the Blazers would prefer Bonzi for SF, we will give Wells our full MLE and trade him to the Blazers for Frye and filler + a 2nd rounder
(It was just an example I am not saying it will/should happen)

I'm considering Crash to be off the table - unless of course Boozer/Odom is coming back. My list is based on us not having to give much up to get what we need.
I agree with Paydro - I want to see something done straight away. I want the team to have as much time as possible to gel. I don't want to be making changes on the fly to try and plug holes. I want to have a set starting 5 without if's, but's and maybes to work through training camp together, get used to each other and then hit the ground running when the season starts.

Re: Starting PF Trade Thread - Ideas?
First of all...to Fats: describing a trade or May for a decent PF (Frye or CV) or even Morrison for one of these with another incoming player, as a "panic" move, is ludicrious. While I'd hate to trade a #3 pick for a player selected further down in the draft, the fact is Morrison was the wrong choice. He doesn't fit a Larry Brown type player with his defensive liabilities. Having said that I'd rather ship out May than Morrison. But you've got to give up to get.
I suspect Charlotte will start with what they've got rather than be aggressive and pick from a bigger potential pool of available players. Teams make committments now, and without doing someting early, we are doomed to waiting until the trade deadline, when it may already be too late. I want a full starting line-up at training camp, not the batch of marginal bigs we have now (May, Ajinca, Hollins, Davidson...UGH!!).

Re: Starting PF Trade Thread - Ideas?
1. No team in the league is going to trade a starting caliber pf that we would be happy with for Sean May and Adam Morrison. If we could get a Wilcox or a Warrick for one or both of them, then kudos to our front office.
2. This team needs Adam Morrison. He will provide offense off the bench and, if developed and used correctly, can be a Ginobli like 6th man.
3. We're not getting anything for Sean May right now. No team in their right mind is trading for him, UNLESS he proves that he can play and stay healthy. He's on our dime until at least the beginning of the season.
I wish Jared Dudley were just 3 inches taller. He would have been perfect. He needs to be a defensive stopper.
That being said, look at San Antonio. They are pretty successful with Timmy (low post player), at the PF/C spot with another paint defender helping down low (Kurt Thomas, Oberto, etc.) The key is that they have a slashing point guard (Parker) and shooters that space the floor (Finley, Barry). They also have a couple of versatile guys like Manu and Bowen who can shoot it from outside and the mid range.
If Okafor can draw the double team down low (that's a big if... he needs to work on his post game and work the bank, as well as passing out of the post), then we're fine playing him and Nazr together. We got two Parker like pg's (Felton and DJ), a better set of outside shooters (JRich and Caroll), and Ammo and Dudley to be the versatile guys. Anything May can provide would be huge.

Re: Starting PF Trade Thread - Ideas?
We've tried Nazi and Oak together and that just doesn't work. Plus we have no quality depth behind those two. Hollins??? ...please! Ajinca???...not this year. Davidson could come off the bench but he'll need to step up in a big way to even get 8th man minutes. May is the only option as a starter, and that is a HUGE gamble. Even the few games he was healthy he was a defensive liability, and not a great rebounder from the 4 spot. THAT'S OUR POINT WITH THE NEED FOR A STARTING PF.
You say play Morrison as 6th man. What minutes will Dudley get? Is he a better player than Morrison defensively at the 3? Yes! Can he score as well as Morrison both inside and outside? To this point that answer is also yes (with the exception of Morrison's couple of explosive scoring nights). So why is Morrison sacred?
Let's say you play Okafor and Nazi together. Who's next off the bench at center? Hollins? He should never have received the qualifying offer unless they planned to trade him. But we have no other big other than Hollins, except Ajinca. Then again, Ajinca is NBDL bound this year. May?
You can't just have bodies and expect to make the playoffs. We have depth at SF and if it takes using it to get a starting PF I'm all for it. Prefer to ship out Morrison but if it's Dudley so be it. If it's Wallace it better be a good one, but so be it. This team will not magically get every formerly-injured college all-star turning into NBA prime time players this season. QUIT DREAMING! If we had great depth in addition to them I'd say sure, roll the dice on May and Morrison and see what we've got.
This team took care of business getting J-Rich. That one was cooked up by the former GM with his old buds. Nice move, but not as bold or creative as it would appear. Now I'm asking this front office to take an agggressive approach to an obvious need instead of waiting for scraps.
