Kings To Acquire Ron Artest
Jul 29, 2008 8:27 PM EST
The Houston Rockets have reached an agreement to acquire forward Ron Artest from the Sacramento Kings, the Houston Chronicle is reporting.
The Rockets will give up guard Bobby Jackson, a No. 1 draft pick next season and another player that the individual with knowledge of the trade could not name.
It is believed that rookie Donte Green is included in the deal, which will prevent the deal from going through until August 14, when Green becomes tradable.
There could also be other players involved to make the money match but none that the Rockets would plan to keep. The Rockets will also send the Kings cash in excess of $1 million.

Artest traded to Houston...
See, I don't understand this move if you're Houston and already have Battier who's one of the league's top defensive small forward besides Artest. Now, you've both of them! Unless Battier is the sixth man.

why is that a bad thing?
I like this deal for the rockets. Good trade for them, hopefully they trample LA in the western standings.

this could get them out of the first round, now if Tmac goes to DET for some of there players, they might be building something.

I think Houston will keep McGrady. This has to bother the Lakers somewhat. Some of the best defending small forwards are in the western conference and the Lakers have not a one. Kobe's life just got a little tougher.
Bowen
Battier/Artest
Kirilenko
Still, McGrady and Ming need to remain healthy. Artest makes them better... But, they still play in the toughest division in the western conference.

Re: Artest traded to Houston...
Wow, that seems like chump change for Artest. A late 1st pick and filler?! damn.
Well I think the Rockets just improved a bunch. I guess they could play a 3 swingman rotation with Artest, Tmac, and Battier. I think it could work on D with Yao manning the middle, and on offense it would be a nightmare for the opposition.

Yeah, I have to say I love this trade for Houston. For years it has been all about Yao and Mcgrady, know they have another semi-star who has lot's of talent on both ends. Artest really can get them over the hump and bring it when Mcgrady goes down with injury as always. This move makes the Rockets respectable in my mind.

And also, a Rockets VS Celtics final is suddenly very appealing from a fans standpoint.

I have a feeling the other player is a Wells S&T. They like him in Sacramento and will use him as a Artest replacement. I'm just glad that the Lakers didn't get Artest.
Also the headline should be ROCKETS to acquire Ron Artest. Whoever put this out must have been in a rush.

Re: Artest traded to Houston...
If this deal goes down as reported, the Rockets got a steal! They didn't give up anyone of importance, and their core is still together. This vaults them into title contention, assuming Artest is on good behavior, which he should be since it's his contract year. I really like this for Houston.
The leaks are real...the news is fake.

Good trade for the Rockets and it's even better if the Kings get Greene out of the deal. That kid has some serious talent

Re: Artest traded to Houston...
Yes, if anything, Artest gives you added flexibility if McGrady should get injured and miss a substantial amount of games. Both Artest and Battier can play and defend the small forward and shooting guard positions. That is to say, both could start if McGrady's out and all three could start at some point in a game if the head coach wants to employ some small-ball. But, the key to Houston's success during the playoffs remains with Ming.
Even with Scola, Artest could start at power forward and guard them so Battier can concentrate on the small forwards. And don't forget about the signing of Barry who adds perimeter shooting, another ball handler and playoff experience. Yeah, the Rockets could be for real on paper even without McGrady. You still need that consistent scoring threat, but I think Houston can get enough scoring out of Alston and Ming if McGrady were traded. But, I don't think he will be. He has to be exited right now.

Salmons is the replacement for Artest at small forward.

Re: Artest traded to Houston...
Wow the rockets will be really interesting next year if Yao can stay healthy, they have good 4's a great 5, there only weakness is the point gaurd spot. Nice deal for them.
As for sacramento, Getting Donte Green and another first is not horrible compensation for a guy who was going to leave at the end of the season any way they get financial releif and 2 good young prospects, remeber the Rockets are another Yao injury and tmac trade away from the lottery, I doubt both will happen but Artest is too volitle to have that much value, its not a great trade but an ok trade for sactown.

Re: Artest traded to Houston...
If the Kings get Greene, a future first and an expiring contract for Artest what more could they hope for?
Battier can play the 4 spot next to Yao, he was playing about 25% of his minutes there anyhow. He is much better in a reserve role, at least mins wise, whether you start him or not isn't that important he is similar player to Posey in a lot ways including that he is an average NBA starter offensively. Artest is huge upgrade offensively, obviously the same old questions remain.

I believe this is a desperate move made by Houston while they already have Battier and T-Mac. They fear another injury problem.

Re: Artest traded to Houston...
Good move by the Rockets. You have to go for it all when you have two superstars in their prime. TMac is unbelievable and so isn't Yao. They are a very scary team now and I am glad they are in the West, if Ron can keep his head on straight.
They really need to shore up their pg position. I am not feeling alston and Brooks. Also gotta pray all 3 of them stay healthy.

I would still like to see a Boston versus San Antonio NBA finals.
Garnett vs. Duncan
Pierce vs. Bowen
Rondo vs. Parker
R. Allen vs. Ginobili
I wanted to see the Ainge versus Horry re-match this season. But, the Spurs failed to advance...
