One more trade could make the Rockets NBA Champs...
I love the Artest deal, now what if they send McGrady to Detroit for Sheed and Billups?
PG - Billups
SG - Battier
SF - Artest
PF - Sheed
C - YAO
w/ Alston, Scola, Landry, Mutombo, Head, Hayes, Dorsey, Brooks, and Brent Barry off the bench.
That would arguably be the greatest defensive team ever assembled, with shooters (Barry, Alston, Head) and energy (Scola, Hayes, Landry, Dorsey) coming off the bench.
Would be a nasty squad.

Before the Artest trade, i might think about it. Now? Absolutely not. After we resign Landry, our offseason is officially complete.

Trade board?
C'mon, one more trade for my Raptors and they'll be the NBA Champs too. One trade for most fringe contending teams or contending teams can make them the NBA champs.

They can't be NBA Champs until they win a posteaseason series first. They are like the Dallas Cowboys. Everyone has them in contention to win it all but forget that the Cowboys haven't won a postseason game in 4321 days.

Hopefully the Pistons wouldn't much such a trade
If the Knicks buy out Marbury, he could be the missing piece or he could be the final personality to break the whole team apart

Oh yeah? My Warriors will be NBA champions with about 12 more trades this offseason, we're so close!

T-Mac/Yao are the key... I don't have Houston down as contenders until they really prove themselves. They certainly have the roster to be, though.
If health is relatively fine (as for everybody, but especially for Houston), they should be contenders. But will they establish themselves they can be contenders? The key to that is getting out of the 1st round, which they have increased their chances significantly to do so, as long as they're healthy. Assuming they face Phoenix, Dallas, Clippers, Blazers... I think they're a lock for R2.
They aren't trading T-Mac, either.

Pistons would not give up Sheed & Billups for McGrady.
Maybe something like Billups & Samb for Battier, Alston, future pick.

I think keeping the roster as is would be best for Houston. All offseason long, Daryl Morey (our GM) has talked about getting a "3rd option scorer". It's only fair to assume that the potential 3rd option scorer would be considered 3rd next to Yao and Mcgrady. Thus, I don't think Morey intends on trading Tracy, at least not until we see how the new squad plays out.

McGrady is very important to that team. His playmaking abilities and creativity cannot be replaced by Billups amd they shouldn't really tinker around with their frontcourt combo of Yao and Scola. Landry would be a nice back up and Mutombo if he's back would add a veteran presence and experience but all in all McGrady's health is the key to run the team and also keep Artest in check.

1) we have a trade board
2) Detroit would NOT trade Chauncey & Sheed for Tmac so it's a moot point
3) The Rockets would be foolish to break up their big 3 before they even set foot on the court together

1) Really?! It's already been mentioned twice in the thread, but thanks for clearing that up, chief!
2) Guess that takes care of that, thanks for the definitive answer! You're probably right though, GM's never make reaches -- especially when they have an aging team and have publicly put 90% of their roster on the trading block... it would be almost as crazy as drafting Darko Milicic over Carmelo Anthony, except not even close!
3) Would they? Bold statement if you ask me. Yao and T-Mac haven't really gotten it done to this point and have managed to miss close to a half a million games between them over their careers, not to mention the fact Ron Artest is clinically insane -- I guess I don't consider this "big 3" as much of a sure thing as you do. I personally think they would jump all over the trade if they could do it for T-Mac and change, but I guess I'm reachin on this one.

Joe wants to put the team over the top. Trading Billups and Sheed for McGrady would not do that. Trading two all-stars for one injury prone star who is marginally better makes no sense at all (not that the trade I proposed makes much more sense). Joe is not one to act rashly out of desperation, which is what a trade like this would be.
Secondly, your point about drafting Darko over Carmelo is just plain silly. It wasn't widely panned at the time. In fact, Denver was really interested in Dark as well. It wasn't a "crazy" draft pick, it was just one that didn't turn out as the Pistons had hoped.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Re: One more trade could make the Rockets NBA Champs...
Morey isnt trading T-Mac PERIOD !!! Its not like we'd get James, Bryant, Wade, Pierce, or CP3 in return so why downgrade? And plus were committed to both T-Mac and Yao combo and each year we continue to bring in the right role players around them. Thats what Morey has done since he came here and hes doing a great job.
The Pistons werent even close to a deal for T-Mac. Were fine with him. I'll take Quality over Quantity. Thats the same reason why Dumars was or is exploring a shake up and thats the same reason why we are keeping T-Mac.

Shane Battier for Channing Frye, and Steve Blake
POR gets their SF they have been searching for, and HOU gets a pass first starting PG to pair up with TMac and a starting PF who can also play Center when Yao gets hurt.

Hell no. Thats an awful trade for us.
Rafer has earned his keep in Houston.
Scola & Landry > Frye
For the record, Mutombo will continue to start at Center when Yao is sitting on the sideline. Yes Mutombo is definatley coming back.
