Louis Williams Vs. Thaddeus Young

Post#1 » by 76ersxMVP » Wed Jul 30, 2008 7:02 pm

At this point in time who is the overall better player? Who is the better scorer out of these 2? Who would make the better starter? Who is the better shooter? Who better at handling the ball?

Well, I think it's a stretch to say Young is a better ballhandler or shooter. Other than that, I do agree the majority of the answers would be young.

-Right now Lou has a much better handle than Young. Not even close, but I expect Young will have a reasonably good handle for a SF in 1-2 years, and he has a great 1st step. Lou has a great handle, and it is nearly impossible for any single defender to stay in front of him.

-Lou is also the better scorer off the dribble, but Young is good in the post. Lou is better at generating his own offense at this point. Young is improving faster than Lou.

-Both have some deficiencies guarding people on the wing- but I expect Young to improve rapidly and become a very good defender. Lou is a mediocre defender who could become an average one who gets a lot of steals.

-Both have decent but not great jumpers- but both are improving. Lou has a better release, Young has better form (Lou's shot is flat), both are average 3 pt shooters who could become above average if left open but neither will ever be a pure shooter like KK or Ray Allen.

-Thad can make a good pass, and generally makes good decisions. Lou is a better creator for others (as would be expected for a scoring guard when compared to a SF.)Lou also can pass and create well. Lou is an above average passer for a SG and below average for a PG. He is at least a willing passer.

-Obviously Thad is a much better rebounder, and more versitile on defense.

Overall Lou is currently a better player as a scoring guard and back-up PG. he also has a ton of upside, and might become a good scoring PG if he fits right into the offense (on most teams he would not be a great fit a PG, but might be the right fit on this team in 2 years if Lou and Young become more polished.)

Young has an even higher ceiling, but since this is his first year at SF expect some growing pains. Overall he is a definate above average starting SF in 1-2 years, and will be a near all-star or better in 3-5 years.

Obviously Lou is the better scorer and ballhandler right now but Thad is the better overall player with the bigger upside and the player who will have a bigger role in helping this team win a title in the next 15 years.
