West/2nd round pick for Barbosa in the works??

Post#1 » by Da_James_Gang » Thu Jul 31, 2008 12:47 am

I just got home from work and on the cavs website there is a thread of numerous people saying they heard roda on the radio saying the cavs are working on a deal that would send west/2nd round pick to the suns for barbosa.....

I'm not really a Barbosa fan, but I guess the Cavs would do that deal. I really don't think Barbosa is a point guard. But, I guess people don't really view West as one either. But at least West plays good defense.

If thats all it would take I would be happy if it is true. I think having Barbosa would make the Cavs much harder to defend. His quickness is something this team has lacked for a long time. And we all know that M Brown could teach a fence post to play defense so that shouldnt be a problem.

I have a soft spot for West...the fight he showed in the playoffs against the Celts (in game 7) is still fresh in my mind.

That said Barbosa would be an upgrade. He has the quickness that Mike B. could likely mold him into an adequate defender...he also

a) Can drill spot up 3's
b) Can break his man down off the dribble better than Delonte
c) Can push the ball in transition better than Delonte

He is not a PG, but neither is West. I'd make the deal, I'd even swap in a future 1st if necessary.

While I like West, I do this deal in a heartbeat. However, I would still think we would be one more solid player away from being a contender. Im just not sure why Phoenix would do this.....Im sure they could probably get more.

Why in the world do the Suns do that?

Roda is making **** up, just like the BD rumors.

I'd be all for it. But like others, I don't think you can put any trust into a local media guy.

I called a Smith and West s&t for Barbosa in the other Barbosa thread. West would probably be a better fit for PHX new head coach but the Cavs still would need to find a perimeter defender to play along Barbosa. BTW, because of West's BYC status they would have to add more salary to make this deal work. Don't really have much confidence in Roda or his 'sources.'

Rhoda is an idiot. Anyone who listens to him for any other reason other than to laugh is an idiot too. This is the same guy that said we had a deal done to get B. Davis in here not more than a month ago. Its simply him trying to get ratings and to keep the few idiot fans he has.

^^And when this deal/rumor ends up falling through, all the fans will be pissed at Danny for not making it work, instead of Rhoda for making up BS rumors he probably read on an online Cavs forum

Actually it was the Phoenix press that started this rumor. I personally have no doubt this will not happen. Barbosa plays defense yes but his game is more of a running style on the offensive side of the court, therefore Brown will not give his approval to Ferry on this because he likes to control the game in his mind with his half court style of ball (even though Lebron is the true controller). I dribble for 20 seconds and then go to the hole strong.

Im a suns fan, and Im not sure why suns FO would do this trade. I like West, but a future 2nd??? If you do get him, hes a good scorer, but I am not too high on the kid. IMO, hes mentally soft.

Second of all, I live in the Phx area, and have not read or heard anywhere our media has said this trade is a possibility.

I could see something like this going down.

The main thing though is while Barbosa does really well in the regular season, he sucks come the postseason.

However, his game seems like a perfect fit (regular season play) for us, can get to the basket but is also a really good outside/3 pt shooter and foul shooter.
