lottery pick, maybe. I'm sure Rhodes can fill BB's shoes nicely.

Bass isn't a free agent. This might factor.

Why would we give away Bass like that? For every Howard, there are 3-4 Ager's drafted in that range.
And who thinks Bass will only be worth 3.3 mil next off-season? We'll be lucky to keep him at the MLE $ amount.

What could we do with Trade Exception 3.3M? There's nearly nothing left in the free agent market.
In a low first, it's always a gamble. Most low first round picks leave the NBA after their rookie season.
It's not something which can help us win anything unless we opt to rebuild now.
Brandon Bass is proven commodity - he can consistently hit mid-range jumper and force turnovers in zone defense. In other words, he's a good rotation player already.
But you're right, Brandon Bass can be more attractive for a reasonable contract. He'd be unrestricted free agent next season. This tremendously weakens his trade value.

If that means that he has an 08/09 season like the 07/08 playoffs (11.6 and 6.8), then paying the MLE sounds good to me. If it means that we're using next year's MLE to overpay a familiar player (See Diop's 3pts 5 rbs last year), then I'll be a little worried. Can't afford to keep overpaying forever.

YES PLEASE DO THIS DEAL! Lol I am a Magic fan and I got a good kick out of this. If you guys make this trade you will be my new favorite team other than the Magic. That would be a dumb trade for you guys and I know it will never happen. Bass is a good young player and I would not give him up unless the right deal came along and this isn't it. At least for Dallas.

We would not actually be using our MLE, but with early bird rights, we can re-sign him up to the MLE...meaning we couls still sign someone else with nect year's MLE.sweet daddy wrote:JES12 wrote:Why would we give away Bass like that? For every Howard, there are 3-4 Ager's drafted in that range.
