Yao/Artest Update: "I'm a Yao Ming soldier babyyyyyy!."

Post#1 » by Vator » Thu Jul 31, 2008 4:34 pm

http://www.sacbee.com/static/weblogs/sp ... 14225.html

After our conversation this afternoon in which he was clearly not thrilled with the comments made by Yao Ming, he went on with KHTK's Carmichael Dave this evening and reported that the issue has been resolved.

Among the relevant revelations...

* Artest said Yao called to clear up the matter and proclaimed himself "a Yao Ming soldier babyyyyyy!."

* He admitted that Yao's comments regarding the brawl "hit me in the soft spot when I read that."

* He said he's even considering a trip to China support Yao with Team China, then quickly made it clear that he is rooting for Team USA for the gold.

He said that he welcomes Ron, but it worried about the team chemistry.

Everything about Yao "dissing" Artest is being blown completely out of proportion. Yao said he's a good player and can help this team a lot; he just hopes the chemistry of the team will not be ruined. He also said that Ron is very welcome to Houston. Reporters are just looking for something to blow up, that's all.

Yeah, I called into the Sacramento station and spoke to Artest -- he's funny as hell. He was shocked someone from DC was calling and said ..." Calling from Washington DC, am I getting arrested???"

Ron Artest makes me feel uneasy. One minute he's excited about this, next he's having second thoughts, and now he's excited again. I hope everything goes smoothly from this point on.

Yea but Yao had to make that call and clear that up. I hope its resolved fully. Can't have your best player and the missing piece not getting along.

Thats just Ron Artest dude. Anything can set him off. I think he'll be fine here but someone has to step up on our team and be a vocal leader. Someone has to step up on be the alpha dog that way Artest can't claim it. Can't have Ron leading your team. It worries me that both Yao and McGrady and soft-spoken nice guys......lead by example type of guys. One of em or even Rafer has to step up on be a vocal leader. Might even need to bring Deke back if only to keep the locker room from leaning towards Artest.

Hey Houston, Ron Artest here. You'll enjoy my playing style. Ron Artest is gonna turn Houston into title contenders. Ron Artest doesn't have a problem with Yao. Ron Artest will turn this team into mine. Tracy McGrady will have Ron Artest to help him get to the 2nd round. I forsee good things here......that is, if your organization has some serious plans for Ronald Artest.

This is just the beginning of the Artest era, and it's going to be interesting to say the least

I think on the court we will be fine though, and that's all that matters

lol

its good to see the Artest haters jump on the bandwagon

Artest will help us immediatelly and is not a 1-2 years player that gives us some or non game

he proved he can play and contribute big time....funny how everyone loves it now, but a year or more ago there were 10 threads about Artest and most of them were full of hatred towards the guy

You'll also recall the things that were being offered for him. Those weren't irrelevant details.

I've pointed out also that one thing that never occurred to me at the time was that if we managed to get him for only an expiring, we'd still have an expiring at the trade deadline, thus minimizing our risk.

Also, I believe this year was a player option for him. If I'm correct on that, and we had acquired him last year, we might have only had him for a heavily-injured playoff run, after which he could have opted out. The timing is much better now, and the price was right.

I still think he can be an extremely hard guy to root for. I still think he's a very risky investment. But I also think Morey did an excellent job of mitigating the inherent risks he brings.
