Sean Singletary
We should sign Sean Singletary, everyone is saying he is included in the Ron Artest deal but will be cut following it. I watched this guy in college, he was a real sleeper in the draft, he has a killer instinct which makes players. He would be a great sign for us. Don't we need to cut someone though?

Re: Sean Singletary
We'd need to cut at least two guys to bring Singletary in since we have 16 with guaranteed contracts. He'd be the fourth point guard, assuming Tinsley gets moved, so unless he can get some minutes at the PF slot and give us a physical inside presence, we're probably more likely to sign Mike Singletary.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

Yea, I figured we had too many people. This guy would still be a steal if we cut McBob and trade Tinsley/Williams for a PF.

I tend to disagree, sorry. This guy is just way too small and not athletic enough to succeed in the NBA. He will have a nice career in Europe, but I don't see him making an NBA roster.

Singletary was a late addition to the Pacers tryouts before this past draft. The only problem I would have in acquiring him is that he won't see much of any time behind Ford, Deiner, and Jack.

Re: Sean Singletary
i would love for the pacers to pull off a deal which frees up some roster spots. singletary would be a nice player to bring in for the minimum. as would elton brown as someone mentioned in another thread. hard working, 'culture' guys that can come in and compete and push their teammates in practice - you can never have enough.

It is easy to say you would like to bring in guys like Elton Brown and Singletary, but which players are you planning on cutting? You need to cut at least two to make one roster spot.

Re: Sean Singletary
Agreed with Joe. I've seen him play several times on TV, and i was not all that impressed with him. He was a senior when he truly dominated games in college. Him being 22 years old also doesn't make him much of a project. I don't see him developing much more, i think what you see now is what you get, getting a player who's almost near his peak to play the bench seems to be pointless.
And i think we are set at point guard. I mean, i really think Travis Diener is a legit backup in the NBA, and he's not going to get close to the minutes he got last year with Jarrett Jack here.

i think i'd rather have singletary or calloway as our number 3 pg rather than diener. but i agree, we definitely shouldn't cut anybody to make roster space. these sort of pick ups only make any sense if we can pull off a 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 or 4 for 2 etc. deal.

Eh, I'd rather have Diener, who's proven that he can play and belongs in the NBA. Plus, he's highly efficient at handling the ball. He's a perfect 3rd string PG who can play extra minutes as the 2nd string and can occasionally start if we have injury problems.

Re: Sean Singletary
you're definitely right about diener's handle. i've just been disappointed in his shooting ability. and there isn't much hope that he can be a decent defender. i've always looked at 3rd stringers as guys who you are taking flyers on who might develop. or grizzled old veterans who are locker room boons.

Re: Sean Singletary
Eh, I hope to just get something out of them. I doubt Diener is a locker-room cancer, and he's a solid ball handler, who once was very solid from long-range. Let's hope he can find it again.

agreed - mostly a moot point anyway. i don't think we're looking to move diener. i do like bringing in guys for the minimum though (if only we had some roster space).
