Best FOOTWORK Position by Position

Post#1 » by shobe_81 » Fri Aug 1, 2008 6:36 pm

Ok, so which players in the NBA have the best footwork?

For me:

PG: D. Williams, Chauncy Billups, Chris Paul
SG: Kobe Bryant (2nd I guess D-Wade)
SF: Paul Pierce
PF: Tim Duncan
C: Hmmmmm.... (I'm gonna say Dwight Howard and Andrew Bynum)

How about you?

I agree with the list, except for center, Yao without a doubt has the best footwork (open joke).

Dwight Howard? Footwork?

Al Jefferson and Tim Duncan can take the two bigman slots, as you could consider either a center.

That's the first thing I thought. Dwight is so strong and athletic that he doesn't have to rely on footwork.

yah...dwight and footwork doesnt really go hand in hand...although he is getting better at certain moves...it's no longer give it to dwight right next to the basket for the jam...he's able to do a little something in the post now...

center would be yao and rasheed

david west and calos boozer also has pretty good footwork at the pf position

I'd go Deron and Billups at the 1 like most. Kobe at the 2; Rip's "footwork" isn't that great but he's a brilliant off-ball player. He doesn't have much need for what you might call footwork except for where and how he plants his feet coming off of a screen and that's fairly common. You might also mention T-Mac here, because when he does it, he's a sound post scorer with good footwork. Kobe's better, though. Same deal with Vince, and again, Kobe's better.

Pierce, Melo, I'd add in Artest, Odom and maybe Rashard Lewis and Boris Diaw.

KG and Duncan obviously come to mind at the "4," but I consider Duncan a 5, so I'll leave it as Garnett here.

At the 5, J23F and I agree that Kaman deserves some mention, as does Yao, though Duncan is obviously the best here and since I've got him as a 5, he takes this spot.

Shaq has better footwork than any center in the league.
Brandon Roy has a case at shooting guard, it's either him or Kobe, DWade doesn't really display that much of footwork.

Shaq definitely deserves mention but I'm inclined to say that Duncan and Kaman are superior.

PG : Used to be Jason Kidd up until not too long ago. Gotta go with Deron nowdays.

SG : Kobe

SF : Pierce/Artest

PF : Garnett/Brand

C : TD/Yao

^while bosh wouldnt be the name that comes to mind first for me (i'd def take west over bosh for footwork) he does have pretty awesome footwork...he uses it mostly to create space for a face up jumper...but it is good none the less

prime example

that's just 1 play, but his face up game is on average just that good

That was a really beautiful move and yeah, his face-up game is outstanding because that's just about the only way he scores, he doesn't have a backdown game. God, he's quick...

Bosh has almost no ability to backdown so he's scoring all his points using his superior footwork against other PF's. It's the reason why he consistently averages over 8 free throws per game. He creates space using his footwork and is able to blow by the defender or create contact for a foul.

Footwork is actually a lot more usefull for pulling off back-to-the-basket moves in the post, and for post-defense then it is for face-up play.

If Bosh was tops when it comes to footwork he wudn't suck donkeyballs @ back-to-the-basket moves, and he wudn't be a sup-par post defender, but he does/is...

Williams/Billups
Kobe/Mcgrady
Perice/Melo
KQ/Bosh
Duncan/Yao

Bosh doesn't have great back to the basket game because of his size. His footwork in itself is top notch though. He's great at setting himself up to get past his defender, spin moves etc...

footwork in the post gives you more options to score...

but i'd go as far to say that having a game where your footwork is used in the face up situation is more impressive than in the post...if you can create space using footwork facing up you're either really quick or you know exactly what the hell you're doing
