The Franchise, Orlando is in Florida where the weather is beautiful...You can take the kids to disney land, its a quick trip to South Beach which is a favorite destination of nBA ballers...
Minnesota has worse weather than Toronto....
while you guys are right New York cant sign everybody....there are 20 teams that willl have Max Money available during that summer. The best player i see the wolves getting is a guy like Travis Outlaw, udonis haslem, or Larry Hughes where they will probably overpay to get him

Believe it or not some people actually enjoy Minnesota. The Vikings have had no problems signing free agents. Utah signed Boozer and Okur, and Utah is not considered a prime location for NBA players.
Mike James is an example of free agent who chose the Wolves over Houston and Dallas.

They just want their internet money.

Desirable Cities ...
= Players will find out where the money is ... salary and/or endorsements. That's about all there is to say no matter how you slice it. The warmer climates will naturally collect more players assuming the money is the same.
The Toronto deal does nothing for us except bring a player who will complain (Humphries). We have both positions shored up already.

Re: Trade idea with the Raptors
OK, granted I am not a professional athlete so I probably don't think like one but... If I were an NBA FA, the factors that would be most important to me would be:
1. Chance to win
2. Chance to play
3. Chance to make money
4. Good team chemistry
5. Quality organization that respects and supports its players.
I think the wolves right now have 4 and 5. If they can offer competitive salaries, quality minutes, and at least the chance to win a lot of games then they should be able to attract a good FA. Obviously #3 is the hard one but if the franchise shows significant progress the next two years, I don't think it will be an insurmountable hurdle.
If winter weather is the most important thing to a player then I'm not sure I would want him on my team anyway. Besides, last time I checked the NBA played indoors and half the games are out of state.

Ok first off, I think most players would rather go to a team that can win, than a team that has nice weather. Secondly, even if Minnesota can't sign a top 5 to 10 free agents, they could still land a very good player if they offered max money.
And finally, WHAT ARE THE 20 TEAMS THAT WILL HAVE CAP SPACE? If you look at teams salary, a lot of teams look like they will have cap space, but you have to factor in extensions to players on rookie contracts, the 2009 free agent class, and all the players that will have cap holds in 2010 against their respective teams. Factoring in all of that, at the very most their will be 10 or so teams that could sign someone, and Minnesota would look a lot more attractive then a lot of those teams because we'd actually have talent while lots of the other teams wouldn't have any talent.

Re: Trade idea with the Raptors
I agree the Wolves "should look attractive" in two years. By that time, we will have some young players that are well develeoped in the Wolves system. As we move forward this year and next year, we will likely trim more fat in exchange for expiring contracts to help set us up for a top FA.
Need a superstar? Well the Wolves don't appear to be overly set on any pre-madonna's any time soon. Mayo was moved for pro-type team player in Love. McCants is his own biggest fan and I think most of us can see him being next, especially, after the addition of Miller. Point is, I believe we will set our selves up to add a player of need vs. the best available ("so-called") superstar when the time comes. We are not building a team that rises and falls on one player as we did with KG. We made that mistake once and between management (poor decisions) and KG (money), they both failed to make it work. That doesn't say wether we don't "prefer" a superstar FA in 2010, but this process does suggest that we are not being built to "need" one.
The next two seasons will determine the validity of Love and Foye as potential all-star players vs. ordinary starters. Foye likely has the edge to move to a higher level, but the seasons are long and staying healthy is critical for both of them. In my "minority" opinion, Brewer is still the diamond in the rough. I hated the pick at the time, but now I'm pretty up on his long-term capability. After the next two seasons, I believe he will be the one truly on the rise. You can tell he's all about team 1st, highly motivated, and a year or two away form becoming a very good player at both ends of the floor. I think we will be amazed at what experience and added strength do to a 6'9" swing player that loves running and playing defense. if he stays a role player, he will be the best 6th man in the league. Mark it down.

Please don't just throw numbers out there without having any sort of proof.
You're telling me 2/3rds of the league is going to have cap space that summer, when this summer, only 4-5 teams had significant cap space?

The Franchise21....
like Scorff said, alot of it depends on what teams do in the 2009 off-season. But as it stands right now, in 2010
Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Golden St., Houston, LAClippers, Memphis, Miami, Minny, New Jersey, New York, Phoenix, Sacramento, San Antonio, Seattle, Toronto and Utah all look like they could sign a max player that year, a few other teams will have money as well to sign medium range type players or if they wanna go into luxury tax mode who knows ?
Do you think McHale is the only genious who had a 2010 plan ?
If you guys want, there was a thread in the general forum that i made exploring 2010 plans
but your right Franchise this year only 4-5 teams had significant space and next year is much more the same, most guys will re-sign with their teams, but then lots of teams have 20-40 million in space for 2010, look it up.
