Free agent Dwayne Mitchell, a 6-foot-5 guard out of Louisiana-Lafayette, signed a contract Friday with the Lakers. Per team policy, terms were not announced.

Mitchell played the majority of last season for the Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League before leaving in February to join Brose Baskets Bamberg in Germany. In 31 games, including 29 starts with the Energy, Mitchell averaged 20.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.60 steals in 37.3 minutes, earning a spot in the 2008 D-League All-Star game.

In 20 games with Bamberg, Mitchell, 25, averaged 10.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists while shooting .504 from the field.

Most recently, Mitchell played for the Lakers 2008 Summer-Pro League team in Las Vegas, averaging 6.7 points on .619 shooting, 1.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 0.83 steals in 15.0 minutes over six games.

NICE find, Leonidas.

He looks like a good finisher around the basket.

Btw, you might want to keep your thread open for at least 12-24 hours before deleting.

Bamberg definitly is a cool place. Its a city that is all about basketball in a country that likes soccer like nothing else. Anyways, i was able to watch many games in which Dwayne played for Bamberg, and he is very athletic and a good defender. Imo, he fits the NBA style of play better than the european style, so maybe he can surprise some of you guys. He is definitly a good finisher, his shot looks kinda akward and is a bit inconsistent, sometimes he even hit several of 3pt attempts without a miss, sometimes all he could shot were bricks, but he lacks the range to hit NBA 3pters.
Does anyone know for sure if he received a guaranteed contract or if this contract is just an invitation for training camp?

Definitvely fits the NBA style better than the European. His ballhandling is a little bit shaky at times and his shot is inconsistent. Good at getting to the rim, average finisher there though. Tries to dunk everything he can. Is getting to the free throw line a lot, yet he is only bad to average there. His defense is very good. Fast with long arms, people will have trouble to get around him. Well and finally there is his athletic ability which is up there with the best.

What makes u think Bamberg is a cool place, hermes? like bmx said, it really is. 8-)

Ahhhhhhhh Hermes Bamberg is the BOMB Mang.
I was station in Amberg Germany, It a 100 kilometers from Nurnberg.
We use to go to Bamberg for training with other units and the city is amazing, the resturants, the people.
Honestly a lot of people always talk about going to Greece Italy Bahamas etc, but man if you can take a trip to Germany, its an amazing experience, specially if your into cars and speed.
The Damilar Benz Museum, The Porsche Plant, The Autobahn, The Black Forest.............Oh and the Women and the Dukenwisen( Beer)

He kind of plays like J.R. Smith or Kenyon Martin.

this kid was one of the few that really stood out at the summer league games that i watched. so many of those guys are just looking for their own shot, but dwayne really stood out for his defense, i just remember seeing him steal that ball from o.j. mayo and slamming it home.

he kind of reminds me of mo evans, defensive oriented, super athletic, dunker, inconsistent shot but can knock down the three from time to time.

I had a feeling he'd get a contract. He was definitely the best player in the SPL games. I'd have him over Coby Karl, and probably Joe Crawford.

yea after watching all the lakers summer league games I had a feeling this guy would get an invite. What really impressed me is that he did a number on O.J. Mayo defensively  . He's probably gonna take Coby Karl's spot

Here's the game against the Grizzlies in Summer League if anyone wants to take a look at him :D

I don't know about his skills, but the way he dunks just reminds me of that over the top body curved and hanging on type dunk that usually J.R or Kenyon like to do.

If he sticks it will be like the 4th Dwayne I've ever come accross...1. My dad's name is Dwayne 2. Dwyane Wade (Eventhough it's spelled differently) 3. Dwayne Clemens Nelson (Haywood Nelson)from "What's Happening!" 4. and now Dwayne Mitchell.

Mitchel is not what the lakers really need, they need a big man more than another guard. I say he will be gone by the time training camp is over.

Actually the Lakers need defense at the one more than anything else right now. Bynum and Gasol can split minutes at the 5, while Lamar spends a lot of time at the 4. But yeah we need an extra big in case one of them gets in foul trouble.
