This has been bugging me. We drafted Sean Williams with the 17th pick last year. He had his success and he had his failures, like any rookie. He has shown flashes of brilliance making everyone believe his potential is through the roof. My question is, why are we shopping him? We are a rebuilding team. Rebuilding teams want cheap and young guys. Sean Williams is on his rookie contract. What is up with this? Do we have to trade everyone or can we actually keep some talent on this team.
It's making me so mad that he is being discussed in trade. I know we have a pletheora of big men but there is no point in trading a young and talented one. The only big man that should be shopped is Swift, and only for a young guy with potential or in a package, becuase he is a pretty big expiring.

I haven't heard much myself in Sean Will being actively shopped. I think the only way he's being traded is being packaged with an expiring for a backup 1/2/3 and even then I'd hate the deal (It's not always a great deal sending a big for a small; could be the reason why we didn't luck out in the KG sweepstakes).

I have no idea why Sean Williams is supposedly on the trading block the Nets don't have bad contracts that are that long anyway...

Yeah like other people said, I don't think you'll see us JUST trade Swat kinda like the TJ Ford for Charlie V trade that happened a few years ago. If he goes (that's a big IF), it's gonna be for a guy we feel will be a significant member of our future. Honestly, I think we have a future solid player at every position but the 3 (coincidence? hmmm...) I'm most intrigued to see if CDR can become a glue guy kinda in the style of Tayshaun Prince personally. If so we're honestly gonna be sitting pretty...a few years down the road.
Bottom line, Sean isn't going for nothing like we did with Marcus.

Although, he is young there must be something internal with him which has him on the trading block.
Externally, he has no clear position is he three or a four. He has some flaws to his game which is clearly evident. I dont have a problem with keeping him but he needs to develop position IMO it should be a 3. Learn how to dribble make a 10 Ft jump shot and learn how to play defense the latter it appears that he made some strides judging ob how he play against Beasley.
We do need another guard so whatever it takes to get a solid player im for it.

Sean Williams is not and will not be a 3 in the NBA. His shot-blocking ability and post game (decent) will allow him to become a 4 in the NBA. He needs to bulk up and increase his rebounding IQ. He's far better off learning to become a 4 rather than a 3.
I hope we keep him, and while I like Boone -- I think he should be one the trying to be dealt. He had a better year (stock is probably higher) and we have others on the team that portray his skill set more than SWAT.

can't Yi play the 3? but then again he is 7 ft tall.
can we run like a huge ass lineup
Harris - VC - Yi - Boone - Lopez

The only thing that is keeping Yi from playing the 3 effectively is his defense. He is not fast or agile enough to run with the talented 3s in the NBA. He would get smoked on D. Swat can play the 4. He just needs to play smarter on D and develop a post game.

Re: What's the point of trading Swat?
For me it's always kind of odd when people say Williams has no position, I've always seen him as a 4 and think that this "no position" rubbish was just something that someone cooked up this summer. Sean is pretty thin and he's quick enough to guard a lot of 3's but I don't see how that makes him a 3 instead of a 4...

The only reason I see the nets trading Sean Williams "area 51" is because they have a lot of forwards or because the coach doesn't like him. But I personally would keep him.. I mean why not keep him?

Re: What's the point of trading Swat?
I guess people get confused cuz he can guard both positions force,he's a 4 because of his shotblocking ability ,he just has to get his wait up even tho he's not that tall. definitely not 6'10 more like 6'9 with shoes on but i would definitely keep him tho.
and there's nothing wrong with seeing what he's worth out there on the market it doesn't mean there gona trade him

I dont think the Nets are ready to trade Sean...as for me...I'm keeping him...he can guard the 3, he obvioulsy can play the 4...and we have seen him at Center...considering he was asked to play all three positions his rookie year, I think the Nets are interested in finding where he fits best with this team...
you never rule out a trade...in Sean's situation he could be packaged, but I think you use Boone who has increased his trade value where you could probably get more than maybe what Sean gets you on pure potential...(but if Boone goes you look to get a big in return--regardless I'd like to keep both)...I really feel its important to be able to move guys around this year positition wise...having a players who can overlap and play multiple positions will only help this team and the development of...
I still havent received the guarantee that Lopez is a starter in the NBA...have you?
