What team do you think has the better depth/bench if you compare the two? The depth for last season's team is post-Korver only.
This team's current depth:
Willie Green
Lou Williams
Jason Smith
Reggie Evans
Marreese Speights
Royal Ivey
Kareem Rush
Last year's depth:
This gets a little confusing, because Green started and Thad/Evans interchanged so often. Just to make it even, assume Thad is the starter at the 4, because he is above. Makes it easier to compare.
Lou Williams
Jason Smith
Rodney Carney
Reggie Evans
Kevin Ollie
Calvin Booth
Louis Amundson
Shav Randolph
What do you think has the better depth? I'll go for this year's. Losing Carney hurts, but the fact that we got Brand, and allows Thad back to his natural position, thus moving Iggy to the 2, and Green to the bench. Not to mention we upgraded with Ivey from Ollie, added Rush, and Jason Smith and Lou Williams should both continue to improve as they mature. Then you add Speights in the draft.
After we traded Carney and Booth to clear up room for Brand, I'll admit I was worried about our depth, but now it is shaking up pretty good. Plus we may still add another minor piece here or there after re-signing Iguodala.
Thoughts?

Not even close, for the reasons you mentioned this year is much better. If Speights turns out to be legit than we might have one of the better benches in the league.

Whoo our bench is soo much better now.. I love how young our bench is now.
In a few years our bench will be the number 1 in the East.

Mario Hezonja. Sixers4lyfe. The 2015 Draft is critical for our future..

Lou is one of the top 6th men in the league.
Green and Evans are solid bench players. They were horrible starters.
Smith and Rush are good shooting specialist. Rush is a better shooter than Carney.
Speights is probably a year away, but will be a great bench player.
---
The only thing lacking is vets who were starters and have experience in the clutch. They are also a bit thin when it comes to athletic wing defenders (ironic.) Maybe they will add a guy like BJ?

i thought evans had lost his starting slot to thad?!and i hope evans loses his backup minutes to smith/spreights.if there is a stat for shots attemted/had blocked then evans would be on the starting team

This nails our only real weakness compared to last year's becnh. Our big man depth is exceptional and we are at least as deep at PG and smaller SG's as we were last year. I'd like to see us pick up an athletic SF propsect a a rookie FA, although there were none on our summer team worth mentioning. There was some mention of Patrick Ewing Jr. being included and then cut in the Artest trade. He would not be a bad pick-up as a D-league player for an area where we need a little more depth.

I'm hoping we sign David Harrison to be our back up center and get either Ira Newble or Devean George as a back up SF, and a veteran locker room voice.

I expect the 76ers bench in 2008-2009 to be on one of the better benches in the NBA. I love Lou Williams, Speights,Smith and Rush. I also see Willie Gren making a contribution.

I think it's highly unlikely we sign anyone else other than undrafted free agents since we can only offer the minimum and unlike before when we signed Ivey and Rush, we no longer have holes in our active roster.
As for the bench, this year's bench will be better for a number of reasons one of the biggest being maturity of two of our young players. I imagine the following will be true...
08-09 Williams > 07-08 Williams
08-09 Smith > 07-08 Smith
Those two players getting better combined with Evans and Rush will make us a much stronger team.

Harrison has some talent, although he is also a bit goofy in interviews I have read of him. I imagine he is at the stage of his career where he needs to look for the place with the best opportunity for playing time, which probably is not here. I expect us to sign one more vet, older guy type, and one or two undrafted FA's.

Did Calvin Booth get cut by Minnesota yet? If not, I'm sure he will be at some point and so I do believe there's a chance he comes back to ride the pine here.
