Next signed player ?

Post#1 » by D21 » Fri Aug 1, 2008 9:07 pm

WAS THAT?: Either my eyes are playing tricks on me or I saw James White (the former Florida and Cincinnati skywalker who played briefly with San Antonio two years ago and snagged a NBA championship ring) cutting down the hallway in the locker room at Philips Arena Thursday.

By the time I slid down the hallway the locker room was empty. I know he played in the Turkish league last year but I don’t know what his status is this season. I’ll have to do some more investigating this weekend and see if there’s anything more to his being in Philips.

James White was indeed in Atlanta yesterday. The ultra-athletic 6-foot-7 swingman, who played last year with Fenerbahce of Turkey, worked out for the Hawks at the Philips Arena Thursday, agent Bill McCandless told HoopsHype. White, who averaged 6.8 ppg and 2.9 rpg in the Euroleague, has no plans to return to Turkey next season and is looking for a job in the NBA instead.

White, who had already worked out with Indiana and Toronto, will be back in Atlanta on Tuesday or Wednesday for another practice session, according to McCandless.

This really doesn't sound like much to get excited about other than he may be asked to come to training camp. Looks like Sund is looking everywhere for players to fill slots 9-12.

He's athletic, but not skilled if my memory serves me right.

yeah, he is one of the best dunkers out there, but thats about it. What if Sund is trying to appease fans by bringing in a hometown kid (Morris) and a higflying athletic guy that brings highlights (White) because he is trading Smith. If he is, then hes not very smart because they aint no way those two can replace Smith.

Given the number of players actually on contracts it would be surprising if more players weren't receiving workouts and camp invites. The Evans and Morris signings make sense. I'm not sure White brings the additional skill sets the team really needs, but you got check all pulses to be sure.

I also thought about what he could bring to help the team, but I have to admit that I almost did not see him play. Knowing he's a great dunker, I just hope he's not only considered to bring some fun in case ATL would lose Smith in a sing-&-trade.

he would have to be delusional if he thought those 2 guys would soften the blow of losing smith.

yeah, as much as i am glad morris is back in the A, if he thinks that would soften the blow, hes mistaken. Really thats just enough to piss you off. Kinda like when your a waiter and the customer leaves a quarter tip. You might as well just not do anything at all, if you think your little quarter is gonna help then just keep it. Im not saying I dont like Morris or hes not worth the $ at all, but our focus needs to be Smith. I wish something would get done
