I have a horrible buzz right now and I'm listening to Ne-yo. No idea why.

Its 5 am.

About to put some damage into this handle of vodka and pass out.

Could go for a McGriddle right now. Damn.

The shutout loss to right-hander Jeff Karstens could be used as Exhibit A in the Cubs' argument for Friday night games. Making his Pirates' debut, Karstens blanked them on five singles over six innings, and three relievers held them hitless over the final three. The Pirates scored three runs off Jason Marquis (6-7) in six innings and their pitchers cruised through the Cubs' lineup.

"Everybody needs a day off," third baseman Aramis Ramirez said. "We play a lot of day games … and it's hot."

In February 1988, when the City Council gave its approval for a limited schedule of Cubs night games—eight in '88 and 18 games through 2002—it did so on the condition that no night games be scheduled on weekends. The idea was to curb rowdiness and ensure local residents an easier time finding parking. Sunday night games are allowed to accommodate national TV and postseason play only.

The Cubs will argue the influx of bars and restaurants in Wrigleyville the last two decades has changed the area so drastically that parking would be an issue regardless of whether the Cubs are playing at night. And many residents have permit parking on their streets anyway.

In 2004, the Cubs won city approval to increase the number of night games to 22, then 26 in '05 and 30 in '06. Eventually the Cubs would like to have as many as 40 night games a year.

For now, however, they're just hoping for the option of scheduling night games on Fridays and Saturdays to help the players beat the summer heat and give their bodies a few more hours to adjust after returning late Thursday from some of their road trips.

The Cubs played a day game Thursday in Milwaukee and were home about two hours after they finished. But they looked lifeless against the Pirates, hitting into four double plays.

itd definitely be kind of cool to see night games on a friday or saturday as a change of pace every once in a while (especially for a low-key series' such as the pirates or the marlins)

I'd love some more night games, but the Lakeview chamber of commerce will have something to say about that.

Although the Cubs are a big entity and have tons of power in Lakeview... Chicago, it makes them a target for all the small guys.

Blue Man Group, The Vic, Metro, among many restaurants and other establishments have always fought to keep night games away from Fri and Sat nights. I don't argue with them either.

On the rare occasions that there is a night game on Fri or Sat, I have a hard time convincing my friends to come to my neck of the woods. I'm not talking about suburban friends either, friends living in Lincoln Park, no more than 5 miles away. It's just that hard to find a place to park, and the driving is brutal.

The article makes a good point that its very difficult to park already, but having big buses down little roads like Clark, Halsted, Belmont, and Addison, really clog up the lanes and make it impossible to drive. The CTA buses aren't bad, but when you add two dozen tour buses delivering people to Wrigley it getsa little too much.

I say re-build Wrigleyville in the burbs... kidding.

I think the Chicago Cubs and day games are unanimous together. But I'm all for more night games. It's easier for a lot more people to see the Cubs with night games even though Wrigley doesn't have any trouble selling out day games.

For the area it's in Wrigley's public transportation is very nice and efficient. It just gets really crowded. If I lived within 5 miles of Wrigley I would try to go to every game I could, regardless of the frustrating transportation.

Don't move Wrigley ever. If worse comes to worse rebuild the grandstands (larger) with a heck of a lot of skyboxes.

Piniella backs plan for weekend night games
http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com ... 6966.story
Lou Piniella is on board with the Cubs' plan to ask the city to relax its ordinance and allow games on Friday and Saturday nights at Wrigley Field.

Cubs Chairman Crane Kenney hopes to convince the city that flexibility in scheduling night games on weekends is needed to keep the players fresh and that concerns over neighborhood congestion are no longer relevant because of the influx of bars and restaurants in the 20 years since the ordinance was enacted.

Since the Cubs often return from trips on Thursday nights, Piniella said the players would benefit with extra rest if they played at night on Friday or Saturday.

"A good example is Friday," Piniella said. "We had an afternoon game in Milwaukee on Thursday, and we get in late and have a day game on Friday.

"There are certain times during the course of a season where exceptions should be made for night games [on weekends]. Not all the time, but look at the schedule and there are a handful of games where you're coming in late in the morning. Like when we came in from Arizona [at 5 a.m.]. You could use a night game on Friday to get your breath a little bit.

Has anyone ever been to the Arlington Heights horse track?

I went yesterday for the Million and it was fun as hell.

I put a $20 bet on a horse to PLACE. Meaning first or second place the horse has to finish in. I look at my ticket right be4 the race starts and she put it to WIN. I was like holy **** if my horse comes in 2nd I am going to be pissed. My horse had like a 15 yard lead the entire race and at the end he started gassing and barely won.

Good thing she messed up. Paid off well. I was getting killed before that score.

Not bad Posey!

Turbo HD. Yes, the background for realgm... anybody have it? Anybody have satellite? I've had digital for years, just wondering if satellite is any good? 140 HD channels by year's end is quite tempting.

Satellite is okay but it sucks when it rains out since you signal goes out. I had Dish Network a few years ago and dropped it after a year because of this. The one time you want to watch TV is when the weather is bad out.
Another problem I had with Dish Network was when I had it back in 2003 they didn't carry WCIU so I had to bring out the battery powered TV that September to watch the Cubs division race.
