Green Bay - A helicopter just did a flyover (no, Brett Favre did not parachute out with the game ball) so we're ready to go:

* The Packers are working on kickoff coverage, and Mason Crosby booted the first one 7 yards deep in the end zone. Kregg Lumpkin thought about taking it out but thought better of it.
* Taj Smith returned the second one for about 30 yards.

* Aaron Rodgers was just announced as the starting quarterback and it was half and half between boos and cheers;

Yea, that really bothered me. What the hell has he ever done to deserve the crap he's bound to get all season?

Same thing when they announced his jersey to giveaway. Mixed cheers/boos. I also don't get how you can boo him, he hasn't done anything in this whole process. I guess its just nature of the beast...

All you Favre haters need to get over it. Let the best man win. It's hard for us "Favre fans" to understand how you "franchise fans" throw him under the bus so quickly. Brett Favre IS the best quarterback on this team. Brett Favre gives you "franchise fans'' the best shot at a title. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't a fan of how Brett handled most of this situation, but the franchise really didn't handle it much better. We have a super bowl contending team with Brett Favre taking the snaps. I just don't feel as if Rodgers will bring us deep into the playoffs or to the playoffs at all. "BUT, but Favre fan, Brett throws so many interceptions in the playoffs" you might say. Where in the hell would this team have been without Brett last season? They sure as hell wouldn't have been in OT of the NFC championship game. I hope Brett comes in and lights it up at camp and forces coaches and management to start him because that's what is BEST for this franchise that we ALL love.

The Head Coach and GM had made the determination that Rodgers was the guy they wanted under center. I'm going to trust their judgement.

Mike Hart (Indianapolis) looks great on 4 plays at the start of Third in the Hall game. 3 straight 10 + yard runs and a few yards on a screen play. 50 + yards on 4 plays. Showing the quick feet and power that he had at UM.

6th rd pick.

I was really high on Mike Hart coming out of UM...he's just a tough SOB and a hard runner...and a smart football player. It's good to see that he's proving me right thus far. Too bad it's not for GB.

I'll go even further in saying the only person who really knows for sure who will give the Packers' the best chance to win is God. But to all the Favre fans who have average 20 less IQ points and teeth, Favre is God.

I have a few observations from the game:

Matt Flynn- looked like a young Mark Brunell. The guy was extremely calm in the pocket, didn't get happy feet, kept his eyes downfield the entire time, and stepped up in the pocket at the appropriate times. We already knew he has a good arm and mobility. It appears the SEC also prepared him for the speed of the game. He won a national championship. NFL GM's might have screwed up allowing him to fall all the way to the 7th for reasons like superior supporting cast and only being a 1-year starter blocked by Russell. The only area he needs to work on is accuracy. He was superior to Brohm and Rodgers on this night.

Aaron Rouse- proved once again at a position that requires possibly the most awareness on the defense, he possesses the trait unlike the incumbent Collins. Rouse is always in position to break up a pass or lay the lumber seemingly. I'd like to see him start over Collins while Nick replaces Bigby in nickel and dime packages.

Patrick Lee- was in receiver's hip pockets all night. Very impressed with his quickness and hips. Has enough speed to stay with our tough receiving corps deep. I love his competitiveness as well. BTW, Tramon Williams reaffirmed the promise he showed last year. I feel great about the cornerback position for the present and beyond.

Johnny Jolly- the defensive line's decline coincided primarily with his loss last year. He has great quickness and motor for such a gargantuan guy. Big shot in the arm for the defense having him return this season.

Brandon Jackson looked much quicker and saw the holes as they were created much better

It's hard to blame Rodgers too much for his performance. The receivers couldn't create any appreciable separation.

Our interior O-Line still stinks at pass blocking and we should be scouring the waiver wire for a cap casualty. They were abused by our 2nd team D-Line against the pass.

Do you guys know the true legal status of Jolly? I mean what are the odds he's able to play the whole season with us?

Agreed Bern on Jolly. He was our best interior lineman last year. His ability to deflect passes is amazing and the defense did fall off when he went down. We went from an elite defense to an above average one.

In the spirit of the QB debate has anyone heard Aaron Rodgers talking about his performance last night? I figured he'd have choice words for all those receivers running the wrong route.

Well, after the scrimmage, Greg Jennings said that the WRs were at fault for a lot of what happened. He said they were dropping balls, running the wrong routes, and not getting separation. He went on to say that there was no excuse.

I was very impressed with our secondary last night. While Lee looks raw, he definitely looks the part of a first year Nickel Cornerback. Blackmon and Tramon Williams were no slouches themselves. I am definitely much more satisfied with the depth at CB this year.

The safety position is very interesting. In my opinion, there is no reason that Aaron Rouse should not be handed the starting position. He proved within 2 starts that he was more instinctual at the position than Bigby or Collins. I think that he will end up stepping into that position.

Johnny Jolly was just this dominant last year, and got nearly no credit for it. I think he will probably get suspended for 4-6 games. It is unfortunately, but even the Packers have to play by the rules.

I think that the O-Line talk is a little ridiculous. Tauscher and Clifton played about 15 plays total, Spitz was out of position, Colledge was replaced by a new starter, and Wells was out with his 'trunk' injury. I think that we will be absolutely fine. I think that a good portion of Aaron Rodgers' struggles were a direct effect of the offensive line being so porous.

On other players... On Nelson's one catch, he looked very fast. I think that he will be more of a deep threat than his 40 time dictates he should be.

Vernand Morency looked excellent. He ran the screen to perfection. He had a huge hole on his only run. I think that he will make a major push to be the #2 RB this season.

I'll write up a longer report with my observations after I am off of work.
