Re: JR Smith...again
if Denver is in the luxury cap already, then they don't want salary. Trade Eric Snow to get the deal done and then he retires on his NBA approved medical hardship. Denver doesn't take on any salary. Who knows, I'm sure Danny and the boys are exploring every angle. Andy stays.

Re: JR Smith...again
It sounds like West is close to signing a new contract with the Cavs.
Other than Varejao I don't see much else on the Cavs a luxury tax team would want in return for JR (except of course future picks or JJ). Don't know if Andy would turn down a deal to Denver. He would certainly get alot of PT there with injury prone Nene and KMart the only established bigs. Denver's style of play would also be a good fit for Andy.
I agree with you guys.... short of that the Cavs would just have to offer the MLE and see if Denver matches. Maybe if the Nuggz use that huge trade exception they got in the Camby deal to acquire someone like Hinrich they wouldn't be too quick to match a MLE offer.

That's a good idea but incorrect. If you refer to Larry Coons you will see:
Larry Coon wrote: 53. How do retired players count against the cap?
Any money paid to a player is included in team salary, even if the player has retired. For example, James Worthy retired in 1994, two years before his contract ended. He continued to receive his salary for the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons, so his salary was included in the Lakers' team salary in those seasons. It is at the team's discretion (or as the result of an agreement between the team and player) whether to continue to pay the player after he has retired.
There is one exception whereby a player can continue to receive his salary, but the salary is not included in the team's team salary. This is when a player is forced to retire for medical reasons and a league-appointed physician confirms that he is medically unfit to continue playing. There is a waiting period of one year following the injury or illness before a team can apply for this salary cap relief. If the waiting period expires mid-season (on any date prior to the last day of the regular season), then the player's entire salary for that season is removed from the team's team salary. For example, in March 2003 the Knicks were allowed to remove Luc Longley's entire 2002-03 salary from their books (and since the luxury tax is based on the team salary as of the last day of the regular season, the Knicks avoided paying any tax on Longley's salary). This provision can also be used when a player dies while under contract.
Teams are not allowed to trade for disabled players and then apply for this salary cap relief. Only the team for which the player was playing when he was disabled may request this relief.
If a player retires, even for medical reasons, his team does not receive a salary cap exception to acquire a replacement player.

Or they could just let JR sign with another team and skip all of that? We could add incentive (not sure if you just forgot to put that in) like a 1st or a couple 2nds though..

Re: JR Smith...again
How about:
Av/Snow/ Chi 2nd 09/ Cle '10 or '11 2nd
for
Jr Smith(S&T)/ Steven Hunter/ Chucky Atkins
Hunter and Atkins havent done anything for Denver and equal Snow's contract(yr shorter than both) which they can use to get Hinrich or Ridnour, if not get the medically retired exemption. AV could likely sign or then they have Snow,AV, and Iverson, plus (2) 1sts[Bobcats] to get better or get rid of KMart and/or Nene's contracts.

The best I could find:
In the end, Delonte West will be back. The Russian rumor was a joke. He'll either sign a long-term deal of at least four years, or he will take the one-year qualifying offer at $2.7 million and become an unrestricted free agent next summer. He has been working out regularly at the Cavs training facility and is in good spirits about playing with the team next season.

Re: JR Smith...again
Yes the Nuggets FO dumped Camby but he's in his mid-30's and not as important to the team as outsiders think. A MLE offer to JR only puts the Nugs over the cap for 1 season. We have around $25 million in expiring deals after the season. The team will pay the tax for one year to keep the 22 year old. Denver isn't going to dump everything around Melo, they still want to win but just don't want a payroll that resembles the knicks.
AV doesn't provided the bench scoring and outside shooting that JR does so I doubt he's wanted by Denver. We'd need to get a comparable player back in the deal for it to happen, meaning you'd need to involved a 3rd team.

Re: JR Smith...again
If we were talking some comparables in return that would mean that Denver would owe the CAVs another player that plays defense since that doesn't describe JR Smith. If JR Smith wants out to join his friend Lebron in Cleveland -- Denver can piss him off some more by continuing not to negotiate and have him accept the Qualifying offer and leave one year latter with the Nuggets getting nothing.
JR Smith also doesn't rebound as much either and his scoring average verses a healthy AV getting more minutes this year would not be great enough either. Yes, JR Smith has intangibles -- but so does Varejao to help you win games like playing defense which wins championships. As stated previously, if Varejao's agent wasn't such a dick head -- he wouldn't be that available.

BMac, yes I was refering to Pluto's blurb and w&g's references on RCF when I stated West appeared to be close to signing a new contract. If the Cavaliers had a backup plan to bring in another PG, I'd have no problem if they dealt West for JR Smith.
