Cavs first signing? (Tarence Kinsey)

Post#1 » by Da_James_Gang » Mon Aug 4, 2008 5:50 pm

There is no link, a mod on the cavs website posted this....

The rumor is going around the internet that the Cavs are close to finishing a deal with Tarence Kinsey.

Undrafted free agent that played 1 & 1/2 seasons with Memphis before getting waived.

WOW!
Clearly a-nother coup for Ferry!

now that we have a real small forward (Kinsey) in camp we can package that LeBron guy for a couple of picks.

Ferry is da man!!

He's 24, has nice length, and had a very nice defensive game against Kobe in the past. He went to South Carolina (averaged 18.8 ppg), went undrafted, and played for and was unexpectedly cut from Memphis. That's about all I know.

Don't get upset at us signing him just cuz he's not some stud. He's going to be somewhere between like the 10th thru 15th guy on our roster, it's not a huge deal. I'm hoping we can take advantage of his length and turn him into a nice defensive roleplayer, but I have no idea how his defense is. His shooting and dunking abilities seem fair (he has some nice dunks on youtube).

Yeah TK's a scrub, but if he gets any pt at all Cleveland fans will be pleased with his play.

I still believe they cut him because too many Griz fans were telling Iavaroni to play him.

If you had intention to sign someone from Turkey why didn't you sign Willie Solomon, Danny Ferry? He's a better scorer and playmaker than Kinsey. And he's also not 4-6. Looks like we have to wait 'til mid-season.

This was for the 06-07 season.

The Grizzlies talked about the need for defense, yet they let go of one of their best defenders. He could have been a solid rotation guy for us, IMO.

Notice all the GRizz posters coming in here.

This guy was loved in Memphis.

Kid will play his heart out for you. He could have become a rotation guy if not for the idiocy of our coach and front office.

I was looking at his numbers when he started like 12 games for the grizz before. He averaged like 19ppg while shooting about 50% from the field. So it seems like he might have some potential, and thats good that grizz fans say he can defend. We need another perimeter defender...

If you guys remember back to the middle/end of 2007 when Kobe was going on that run of 40 and 50+ games, it was TK who put a stop to that jazz in LA, while a rookie, while scoring a career high of 24 in the process of defending Kobe.

Here's part of an interview...

(Gay didn't defend Kobe near as much as Kinsey did.
Bryant's string of outstanding games came to an ugly end, and rookies Tarence Kinsey and Rudy Gay led the lowly Grizzlies to a shocking 88-86 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night to snap a four-game losing streak.

Bryant, who had scored at least 40 points in five straight games, including 50 in the first four, shot 7-of-26 and scored only 23. He made 53.2 percent of his field goal attempts, including half of his 3-point shots in those previous five games.

"They played a box, and I haven't seen that since high school," Bryant said. "Other than that, I was able to raise up and get good looks at the basket. It just didn't go in for me."

Bryant scored 60 points to lead the Lakers past the Grizzlies 121-119 at Memphis last Thursday. He also had games of 65, 50, 50 and 43 points in his last five.

"Nobody likes to get 60 scored on them by any player," said Gay, who had 20 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.

"Even though I'm a rookie, I'm a man," said Kinsey, who scored five of his career-high 24 points in the final minute. "It hurt my pride, it hurt everybody's pride."

Memphis made a huge error in cutting Kinsey last year.

HUGE mistake, the kid is skinny but he can play.

Tenacious defender. Pesky as hell.

congrats on the good/cheap signing...

i'm still pissed at the griz for letting the kid go.....

he made our roster while having a broken eye socket....then when he got PT, he delivered....with the culmination being a toe-to-toe dual with Kobe after Kobe dropped 60 on us the week before and in the second go round TK held his own, scored 24 to Kobe's 23 and led us to a late season victory, that actually sucked because the fans were cheering for losses in the Oden/Durant sweepstakes....

TK plays hard.....has a nice midrange game....plays solid defense....and has great character...

I too truly beleive he was only cut b/c when Iavaroni would do his weekly radio gig, the show was constantly flooded with callers asking why Kinsey isn't play more.....You could tell in his response to the same call (by different people each time) over and over, he was getting annoyed....not soon after he was cut.....

this is all good to hear...thanx for the input grizz fans - maybe he can be a diamond in the rough

i just think its interesting that we have been so inactive the past two offseasons that wiretap basically throws a parade even for the most low-key of signings

Word.
I'm impressed with all the Griz fans coming over to endorse Kinsey. Hopefully he can contribute a little bit next season. The Cavs need another perimeter defender in the worst way.
