Target: Pleyers Playing for Championships

Post#1 » by Mamba Venom » Sun Aug 3, 2008 11:57 am

The Lakers need to target players playing for championship, not $

Juwan Howard and Michael Finley come to mind and both are free agents.
Sam I Am and Robert Horry are out there.

Boston wouldnt have won w/o all the vets the Celts drew. Its time for an arms race. The Lakers could do even more damage with an experienced bench

Mitch is done signing players, unless they pick up some training camp scrubs.

I think the team we have is pretty good as is. Its going to be hard enough giving guys the minutes they deserve as is. Im thinking that Vlade should come back on point next year. I may be alone in that thought but I really do. It took Sasha what, 3 or 4 years to become comfortable in the offense. Vlade is coming into his 3rd year so I expect improvement. Luke Played hurt all year and should be healthy after his surgery. Plus we still have to find minutes for Ariza. This team is fully talented when heathly. I personally dont think we need anyone else.

IMO the key to next season is Ariza's improvement.

Yes sir I agree. I also think everyone need to improve. Especially Vlade if he is going to be the starter. I dont know how long he will be starting though with Ariza playing great basketball last year when he was starting.

Jason white chocolate Williams, Zo if healthy...

MOST championship teams pick up some good vets on the cheap. Its great the Lakers are developing Sasha, Luke, Farmar, and Ariza BUT in the play-offs a few strong minutes could change the outcoem of a series
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

While I think you are correct in your assessment. Guys like PJ Brown and Posey did wonders for for the celtics. But the question I have is who are we going to sit down to let the vet play. Celtics were not as deep as us so I dont see a vet geting the minutes of a Posey or PJ Brown.

If Finley would come cheap, I would think it would be a good signing. He has size that Phil seems to like, can hit the 3 and I bet would play for a ring over playing for a hugh pay day. We do have a few other small forwards. So it might be interesting to see if he comes in or even considers the Lakers.

Guys like Cassell, Horry, PJ Brown or Finley already have rings, so they willingness towards playing for the championship for minimum is obviously diminished. Unless they really deserve no more than minimum - like Sam and Rob now - but then their usefulness for us is so minimal that we shouldn't bother. But Finley deserves far more than the minimum; and will get his contract from someone else than us, since it's rather obvious we won't be spending our MLE now.

Zo? Yes but no to white chocolate even if he wants to sign for the minimum. He's far too adventurous and a maverick to be playing in the confines of the triangle offense and he's never been a remarkable defender either.

Michael Finley, Bonzi Wells, and Francisco Elson would be great pick ups.

SF:Wells/Ariza/Walton
PF:Gasol/Odom/Radmanovic
C:Bynum/Elson/Mihm
SG:Bryant/Vujacic/Finley
PG:Fisher/Farmar

Finley and Wells can take all od Radmanovic and Walton's minutes
