OT: Tropical Storm Edouard

Post#1 » by Texas Longhorns » Mon Aug 4, 2008 10:16 am

It's basically coming for Houston.. Just wanted to make a thread because of our low level streets and highways that always get flooded.

Anyone moving anywhere or anything?

i live in rosenberg. were not moving anywhere. just picking up all loose items that cant be picked up by 35 or 40 mph winds. i think we'll be ok. just rain and wind for an hour or so.

Was supposed to be at Galveston for the week at beach house. Rental company made us evacuate so the owner won't have liability issues if the house breaks or something. Shame, the weather was really nice up til now.

Looks like Houston is going to take a direct hit, the eye is coming straight for downtown.

hahaha... During Rita, a bunch of my boys came up to my school in Nacogdoches and we just had parties the whole time. We lost power for like 6 hours... but it was mostly 4 days of partying...

Good Luck down there in H-town though...

You went to SFA?? I might be going there in the Fall..
Back on subject, This Tropical Strom is over-hyped. IMO Like Rita nothing happened but I think worse case senario is like Tropical Storm Alison.

Exactly...I went to HEB yesterday and stocked up on a few things myself like Beer. It was funny watching all of those women running around in a panic. That is until I got home. My wife came home with over $300 of storm supplies. Pissed me off. I was like what the hell?! How many flashlights and lanterns does one person need. She said something about what I bought to which I responded, if we actually do somehow get caught in a natural disaster, I would rather not care about having lights than actually having lights. If the roof flies off or I see somebody's kid fly by through the air, I'm going to be measuring for distance and how much air they get while you're screaming and panicing. I think she bought as much water as they would allow and every snack she could get her hands on. She also bought a bunch of crap like a $50 radio that doesn't need batteries or electricity to operate to monitor the storm if we lost power. I was like, I don't need to listen to the damn radio for them to tell me what I already know such as it's flooding and there is no power. Anyways, I didn't need to go to Specs though. Checked my cabinet prior to leaving the house and I was pretty set as far as the hard stuff goes.

Disaster planning by panic or emotion is the best. I'm going to stay home, but Andrew "By God" Jackson if that "hurricane" manages to get into our house and rip everything in two with its sprinkles and 14 mph winds, I'm going to turn on my radio and flashlight and try to hit it over the head with a weather report that says it's getting weaker and shouldn't be there! Hurricanes are a bit like vampires in that sense.

Several years ago mom accidentally heated up the oven while it was full of pizza boxes. They caught on fire, naturally. So rather than keep them in the fireproof oven, she screamed like a maniac, ran in circles for a few minutes, then yanked them out and threw them out onto the floor and bellowed for towels.

Dad ran in and started trying to stamp the fire out.

I came in, looked at this fantastic mess, strolled into the garage and came back in with a fire extinguisher. (had it been a spider or spreading to the walls, this would not have been my reaction, but as-is we just ended up with a scorched carpet)

To your story vator, playing monopoly by candlelight is fun. For a while, it feels like you're a family of Polish immigrants from 1910, then the lights and tvs come back on and it's like going through a time warp.

p.s. Congratulations to media on successfully instigating unnecessary ratings-driving panic! As always, you guys RULE.
Morey 2020.

No traffic while driving to work today was nice. Plus a free car wash.

It's just rain.

No, the worst of it is yet to come. It's Cat 2 now...

lol jk....... It's mostly over for the west side of town as far as rain and the winds don't look like a factor anymore so basically yeah, it's just sprinkly rain now.
