Some of you guys that have been on here a while know some of my threads that I have had about Super Stars that arent ready to let go.
Well Brett Faver is one of those guys, and it seems that he isnt willing to settle for the 25 million dollars offer he has been offered by the Packers to stay retired.
So I ask you that question?
If you have won your super bowls and have made a fortune and a name for yourself in the history books, would you walk away on top with all the wealth and an additional 25 million, or would you try to pursue another team and try to take a shot at another season in the NFL to porve something, cause thats what it look like Favre is trying to do?

Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre went into a meeting Tuesday morning acknowledging that he was at a "stalemate" with the team and believed the "best thing for this team is for us to part ways."

Favre left practice shortly before 3 p.m. ET Tuesday, telling ESPN's Wendi Nix that he was not going to practice. He said there would be another meeting with his family and Packers GM Ted Thompson to discuss trade possibilities, in the hopes of resolving the situation. It was not clear when that meeting would take place.

"We're at a stalemate," Favre said. "Mike and I both agreed last night that me being out there is a distraction and will continue to be a distraction. We all know the reason I'm here is because the commissioner [Roger Goodell] reinstated me so we have a lot of things to figure out. It's simple and complicated, both at the same time."

I think we underestimate how much some of these guys truly love playing their respective games. The fringe benefits are obviously incredible. But I'm sure for many pro athletes nothing can surpass the priviledge of playing with and against the absolute best competition there is.

Look at Troy Aikman and Steve Young: Both were in danger of suffering serious long-term health issues due to multiple concussions, yet they had to be virtually drug away from the field. They couldn't let go. I guarantee guys like Magic and Mike would give millions just to have one more season of basketball in their prime. Kobe will be the same way.

Getting back to the question at hand, there's no way I would accept Green Bay's marketing deal. Then you look like a money-hungry mercenary trying to shake down a franchise that's already paid you tens of millions. As irritating and drawn-out as this story might have gotten, I fully believe Favre just wants to play some football, regardless of who it's for.

If I were GB I'd call his bluff and trade him to the Jets if I could even if it's for peanuts. If he's really doing it for the love of the game, he'll play....if not, he'll look like an even bigger **** by backing out.

If he plays, GB gets something in return, if not they're no worse off than when he retired.

Did I mention that I think Favre is one of the more overrated quarterbacks of the last 20 years?

i don't know how much of that 25 million to retire was true, but i don't even know what to make of this anymore
as a viking fan i'm not sure i'd want him on the vikes, it would bring in a complete circus and who knows if brett is still going to be good (i'd imagine he would be)

I'm a Vikings fan, too, and I'm also on the fence. On one hand, there's no way he wouldn't be a massive upgrade over Jackson, who I'm still not a big fan of. On the other, I've always thought Favre was too mistake-prone, especially as he's gotten older. You'd have to take him if you had the opportunity, but I wouldn't assume that his arrival was a guarantee to the Super Bowl.

Why is he still trying to come back.
I mean he doesnt need to prove anything to anyone and no one and no team will give him a phat contract worth 25 million over what 3 years 4 years.
He's getting 25 mil to sit at home.........LOLLL
So what is his main objective in his return?

As yet another Vikings fan in Lakerland, I'd take Brett for 1 yr - think he could teach TJax a thing or nine about quarterbacking in the NFL, while leading the Vikings certainly into the playoffs and hopefully to the promised land. Jackson is not ready to be that guy, but the D and AP are ready so the Vikes need a short-term QB to bring it all together.

This is not anything new. Randall Cunningham and Jeff George (with youngsters Brad Johnson and Daunte Culpepper to develop) were brought in for similar purposes in the last 10 yrs. Randall got to the NFC championship game and George got to the 2nd rd.

It would have been an embarrassment to his legacy for him to take the money and stop playing. If the dude wants to play, let him play! And, the guy was arguably the best QB in the NFC last year, starting QB for the NFC, so why would he pack it up? He is playing at an All-Star level.

Giants fan here. I would love Favre to come to my side of town and play for the Jets. I would love to see him every weekend throwing bombs to Coles for TDs. The Jets got the tools they just dont have the QB. Pennington is a joke.

Either way, there is only one real football team in NY and thats the Giants even as much as I want Favre to come to NY to play for the Jets.

Let the guy play. I know you are cowboys fan and he is/could be an NFC rival. I just find the whole thing funny and entertaining. I laugh at the packers.. and there we dont wont you and wont let you go. I still think Farrrrrve can play and he doesnt really impact my Chargers.

they'll let him play - they just won't let him control everything, which they shouldn't. i think it's the whole fool me once shame on you fool me twice.....except this is like the 4th time. i think if he had initially acted like an adult this could have played out much better...what the hell is GB supposed to do given the cards they were handed?

if he thinks that GB will just trade him to a team that he wants to go to, that could ultimately put that team above his current one, then he's even more delusional than i thought he was...in addition to being a self serving drama queen....I don't think it has to be the jets, but some other team where he can play (because according to him this is all about the love of the game) but isn't really a threat. Like I said before, call his freaking bluff and see what he does.

Personally, I'm with you - i enjoy watching it unravel....but I think 90% of it is the fault of Favre, his agent, and his ego.

I think there is a clash of ego's and I am sure GB is tired of it. But at the end of the day you have a better team with Brett. And this is a win now league.

I think that, even as great as Favre has been, they're sick of the annual indecision every offseason.

For the past three or four years he's sort of strung them along about his intentions, and I think that's gotten old -- especially with an apparent hand-picked successor in whom they've invested a lot of time/money developing. Maybe you're supposed to just suck it up and cater to a legend like that. I totally agree that the only thing that matters is winning, and he gives them the best chance. At the same time, however, I can see why they're ready to move on.

I do know this for certain -- they couldn't possibly make a bigger mistake than trading him to Minnesota or Chicago, which I think there's about 0% chance of happening. The fans would burn down Lambeau. Which I'd love to see...but it ain't happening. I suspect he's either going to Tampa or nowhere.

and when GB starts 0-2 or 2-3 - because you better believe with that circus it's possible - and he decides that he made a mistake and wants to go back to mississippi, because it would rain down on him like you wouldn't believe...what happens then?

GB has no reason to trust him, and McCarthy heard something in that meeting that he didn't like. Get over Brett Favre - they're good again because of McCarthy and Thompson, not him. They only started getting better again when they put their stamp on it....GB has sucked with Favre for years.

Agreed, and nobody's gotten a bigger free pass. His record and achievements speak for itself. But I've never respected/feared Favre like I did Montana, Young, Marino, Aikman or Elway because there was always a chance, even when he was in his prime, that he was going to serve up the game for you on a platter. Case in point was last year's NFC title game -- absolute vintage Favre, costing his team dearly with a mindless turnover.

I heard on the radio this morning that he spent the entire offseason leading up to last year working with a $5,000-a-week trainer getting himself into the best shape of his life. It would seem that this year all he's done is tractor around his ranch in Mississippi, so I highly doubt he'll be able to approach last year's production, especially if he's traded to a new team.

During the same segment the reporter said that on no less than three different occassions did Favre approach the Packers about returning this offseason before backing out shortly thereafter. And now this...
