Suns will host Christmas game
Spurs will be opponent for holiday and opener

The Arizona Republic
Suns fans might have a hard time accepting Wednesday's announcement of a Dec. 25 home game as an early Christmas present when they hear the opponent.

The San Antonio Spurs, who eliminated the Suns in three of the past four postseasons, will visit Phoenix to revive a tradition of an NBA Christmas in the desert. San Antonio also will host the Suns' regular-season opener Oct. 29. The Suns' home opener follows Oct. 30 against New Orleans, starting the season with a road-home back-to-back set for the third year in a row.

The regular-season schedule will be released Wednesday.
The Suns hosted Christmas games in the club's first nine years and again in the early 1980s and mid-1990s. They have not played on Christmas since 1996, when the schedule was made before Charles Barkley was traded to the Houston Rockets.

Current Suns center Shaquille O'Neal led a 108-87 Lakers rout of the Suns that year.

I think the Spurs still have the edge over the Suns.

why wouldn't we? they're old, just like our team..but we took them out in 5 games with an injured Manu..

I'm happy for the Spurs players here though..this is virtually the same as spending time with family..except instead of wives and daughters, it'll strictly be with their sons..

Since it's regular season, I see the Suns winning, analysts, saying that the Suns have finally figured out the Spurs, and then for the Spurs to beat them again in the playoffs.

This should be a great Christmas day game! Even though I am a Spurs fan, I will have to go with the Suns to win this one.

I had made a prediction that the Celtics and Lakers would be playing on Christmas after the season had ended. With the Suns not playing the Lakers, it looks very probable that that is their plan so it makes the NBA look very predictable.

Im going with the Suns because I have a feeling that Timmy D will be a step slower this year and wont be able to dominate the suns like past.

Duncan will still be Duncan for at least a little while more... people really need to just put off those comments till Tim actually shows it over the course of the season, and playoffs.

It'll be a fun, quality game, but it's nothing serious if the Spurs lose.

It won't be the same if Robert Horry doesn't hug Steve Nash at halfcourt before the game, a la Shaq and Kobe.

Really...you can't think of any other players on either team who will be a step slower and won't dominate like they used to in the past?
