All-Time Spurs

Post#1 » by BillyHoyle » Wed Aug 6, 2008 5:21 pm

if you could select an All-Time Spurs starting 5, (don't focus only on numbers but on "team-chemistry" as well), how would it look like?

I know Manu doesn't play point, but I would rotate him to get him on the floor,

PG- Manu Ginobli
SG- George Gervin
SF- Sean Elliot
PF- Tim Duncan
C- David Robinson

If we are picking ex-spurs in their prime I would sneak Dominique Wilkins in at SF even though he didn't do anything for the Spurs franchise other than giving the trainers extra work icing bum knees :D

Come on man, Nique gave us 19 ppg as I recall.

PG - Johnny Moore, Tony Parker
SG - George Gervin, Alvin Robertson
SF - Bruce Bowen, Sean Elliott
PF - Tim Duncan
C - David Robinson

I chose Bruce and Johnny Moore to start, because with David, Duncan and Gervin we already have a lot of scoring and Johnny Moore was a much better disher than Tony Parker will ever be and I feel that you can have too much offense on the floor at one time, but never too much defense. Bowen would get a lot of open looks for his corner 3 ball. Alvin Robertson off the bench is a capable scorer and an outstanding defender, originally I wanted him to start but there are few SG's that I bench Gervin for. Parker gives us a scoring threat off the bench as does Elliott.

I wouldn't take David or Timmy out, so no need for alts.

PG : Johnny Moore
SG : George " Ice Man " Gervin
SF : Mike Mitchell ( Man use to kill the Lakers all the time )
PF : Tim Duncan ( Billy Paultz dude was nasty on the boards )
C : Artis Gilmore

Old school for me, those guys just played in the wrong era with the Lakers but they were good.
