Re: Celtics interested in Delonte West
There is no exaggeration he is a very good all around player he is not "great" at anything. Ray Allen is a great shooter he has a career eFG of 52% and and a TS% of 57% Delonte has a eFG of 50% and a TS% of 53%. He is not a great ball handler and average at best for a pg and as has been gone over again and again extremely left handed. At the same time he limits his turnovers and has a better than 2:1 ratio. He is also a good rebounder from the guard spot. Delonte is an average starting pg, 10ppg/5apg guy, but less than a 3rd of the players in the NBA are a capable of being and average starter, never mind at a demanding positon like pg.
Now Gibson is a similar player to House and Head. He is the classic SG in a PG body. Excellent shooter with great range almost no playmaking game, not a rebounder, and a defensive liability. He is a 10/2 in starter mins.
Whether or not you like the guy or not doesn't change the facts. West was and is a significant upgrade at the pg spot for CLE.

Sooooo.... he wasn't making the Cavs "suffer", and he did a good job for them, and they want him back.
And I agree with all of Sully's posts so far.
I like this thread again...

Re: Celtics interested in Delonte West
Pete's definition of scrub journey man is Delonte West. A guy who scores 20 in game 7 against the NBA champs on their home court and takes the potential game tying 3 with less than a minute left that looked good and rattled in and out.
I guess every team in the NBA could use a few more scrubs/journeymen like that.
BTW, Pete was also a big fan of Ricky Davis. A guy whose game completely disappeared in the playoffs. Personally, I prefer guys who step up their game not fold when the pressure is on.

"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."

can someone tell me why this thread is 7 pages? We signed House as the backup pg. We aren't signing West.

The Cavs don't seem to agree.Delonte West is a good shooter
.413 on the year. .356 from 3. Good? I don't think that's stellar for a 6'2" PG.solid ball handler
Hell no. One of the worst handling PG's in the league. Off-hand I can't think of a PG with as poor a handle.and a much better defender
In Seattle his PER against was 16.6 and his PER was 12.6. I see no real evidence of this defense ability. Delonte acts like he is trying hard - just like that Sasha guy on the Lakers. Lots of hustle but little actual results.and rebounder its not even close in that respect which is why he ended up being the starter.
He MAY end up better then Gibson. But that's like bragging Justin Reed is better then Ira Newble. Gibson is the more talented player - he has mostly *issed that talent away hence the second round pick. But coming out of HS he was considered a likely stud..
And no I don't think Delonte was loved around here or is. Quite a few fans aren't too high on him. Some of us don't want him back. I think his hustle blinds people to his numerous faults. Like I said Danny Ainge made the right call. He could have dumped Rondo and kept West.
I thought he did bring his A game against us in the playoffs. But too often he brings his normal game..just ask Seattle. If I am the Cavs I am still searching for that top tier NBA PG. Delonte is at his best as an off-guard, IMHO. He just lacks a few inches. He is a bit like House in that regard - a 2 in a 1's body. But House has alot less ego and doesn't pound the ball into floor for half the shot clock..

i dont know where to begin with this garbage that you're spewing.
the reason gibson is signed and west isnt is because there never was any doubt that gibson was not going to sign. gibson was a second rounder, so his contract situation was different than delonte's and there were more restrictions on what teams could offer to boobie. boobie and lebron also have this weird man-love towards each other, so boobie wasnt going anywhere and probably just wanted to get his contract situation over with.
with delonte being restricted, the cavs have the ability to match any contract offer that he should receive. plus with all the free agent signings that have gone on so far, teams dont have much more than the mle to offer. as mentioned earlier, the cavs tend to lowball players and tend to stick to their guns throughout the process. this is what happened to pavs and av last year. delonte wants more than the projected 4.5 mil that the cavs are willing to pay him. that doesnt mean the cavs dont want him back, its just with the rules set up as they are, they want to pay him on their terms.
delonte does very well as the starter just as boobie does very well as the sixth man but both guys are usually on the court during crunch time (an example of this being in game 4 of the wash series where the outside shooting of gibson and west kept the cavs in the game and west eventually won the game with his baseline three).
does delonte need to work on the turnovers? well, yes. but even with that said, he was still our second best player in the series against you guys (z was only really good for about the first two games and kind of tailed off after that). is he a starter on anybody but the cavs? probably not but in his role on the cavs, he makes it work (which is probably why he and the cavs are stalled in their contract talks but when he eentually realizes that he is in a pretty good position in cleveland, i think he will change his and his agent's stance).
i love what delonte brings to the cavs and i really dont care what previous teams in seattle and boston thought (even though it sounds like most celtic fans would welcome him back as the backup pg to rondo).
yes, rondo was better than west in the series but that shouldnt be a surprise. rajon is the vastly better player, but that does not make delonte the worst guy in the league. losing delonte would be a big blow to the cavs because then it would force gibson to start (which he never has really excelled in) or find another starter which would allow to boobie to come off the bench in his more comfortable role. so yes delonte is important to the cavs going forward, but its also important for the cavs to get him on their terms and not overpay him (basically anything over 5 mil).
sorry for the rant...just had to get that off to my chest

They shouldn't have caved. Pavlovic sucks as well. I feel bad for the Cavs fan. Easily the closest to a one man team in NBA history. I suppose it terms of suckitude its West > Pavlovic > Wally > Ira Newble but MY GOD what a suckfest.. At least you finally dumped Ira Newble.

I see my boy Lute was mentioned earlier. You guys can all have West and give me Head. Luther is one of the best combo guards in the league, imo. It is obfuscated by the fact that two of the best players on his team are often injured and the obvious pace factors. Man, I am big fan of Head. Just give me Head all day, every day and I will be happy.

I obviously don't have better things to concern myself with. It is a joke, with truth in it. It really freaks me out.
