OT - Jays turn down deal for Jason Bay

Post#1 » by reck0n3r » Thu Aug 7, 2008 12:48 am

6th August, 2008 - 6:48 pm
The Metro News - The Blue Jays reportedly turned down a deal that would have sent outfielder Jason Bay to Toronto for a pair of top-level prospects last week, according to The Metro News.

A front-office source from Pittsburgh told the newspaper on Tuesday that the Blue Jays refused to part with minor leaguers Travis Snider and Brett Cecil.

Oh I also just noticed that this is being reported by none other than Marty York, so it should be taken with a grain of salt.

But if that's true, :nonono:

I wouldn't trade Cecil and Snider for him. Lind/Wells/Rios in the outfield is good enough and Snider could play 1B or DH as soon as next year, and Cecil could be in the starting rotation as soon as next year or maybe even September this season.

I guess I don't follow our prospects too much anymore, but what's so wonderful about them?

I'm not a fan of Ricciardi.

two things that came to my mind:

1) It was written by Marty York.. however, he still has come through with legit rumors

2) I wouldn't have done this deal... no way for Snider..

SomewhatDamaged: Snide was our first round pick back in 2006, plays outfield, and is projected to be our power hitter sometime down the road.. Schad can probably give you a very detailed breakdown of the type of prospect he is

Snider's like the only top prospect we have. He was the only Jay to be ranked among top 100 prospects this year in baseball. I think he was in the top 15-20.

I couldn't give a single flying fidoo about where a player on my team is born.

Jason Bay is a good player but overrated by people in Trail, B.C. and some in the GTA.

I first read the article and was upset we didnt do this trade, but thanks to the posters above me, informing me about our prospects, makes me think its okay we didnt do the trade.

This season is done, so if the prospects can contribute next year than im fine with it.

And yes its Marty, but hes pretty good with baseball and hockey.

this rumour is legit.

except the original story was Snider and Marcum. we DO NOT get rid of Snider. and we have Wells, Rios, and Lind is mashing right now. we do NOT need another corner outfielder. JP did a responsible thing by not biting even though it may cost him his job.

I can't think of any one more than Bay on the jays except .....snider oh ya and maybe Marnieu(how ever you spell it), wouldn't have hurt my feelings to see wells or Rios be moved for a CLUTCH power hitter, perferably wells and his big fat overpayed contract, still hopping RIos and will get it together someday

Snider= Our best hitting prospect
Cecil= Our best pitching prospect

They're both doing fairly well this year at AA (though Snider isn't doing as well as expected... BA is down and SO's are up)

Snider has been regarded as a top 10-15 prospect in all of baseball, so he's a keeper for sure. He's 20 with tremendous power. We should see him sometime next year, and hopefully he'll be an everyday player by 2010.

JP has done a very good job over the past two drafts in attempting to restock our farm system.

i opened the wiretap story knowing snider was about to be mentioned.

I wouldn't trade snider alone for jason bay. Ive never been this happy about a jays prospect. I would have freaked out if this deal happened. I just hope JP doesn't decide to deal him in the hopes that it will save his job.

Wow thank god we didn't do that. No way in hell I'd trade Snider for Bay.

I'm happy about this. Snider's going to be a perennial 30-40 homerun guy. Cecil can become a nice #2 starter.

Good. Cecil is one of if not our best pitching prospect and Snider is our top prospect. Plus we got a guy named Adam Lind who's been on fire ever since his call up.

haven't watched a jays game in years. That trade might have given me a reason to

no idea who those prospects are but 2 for 1 trades are almost always a good idea

I guess I can understand it from the standpoint of someone who doesn't follow the Jays that much, since they may not be fully aware of the young players involved in the deal..

this is like trading lincecum for rios. Everyone knee it would be a rip off for us if it happened. Sabean was almost stupid enough to do it.

As much as I like Bay i'm glad JP didn't do this deal. Snider is our best prospect and I think even with Bay we'd have trouble making the playoffs.
