Let me preface this by saying I know this should probably be put in the off-season thread, but thought this would be a good discussion.
The Pacers currently have 16 players under contract (one more than allowed by NBA Regulations), and have come out saying that Tinsley is definitely gone (via trade, not buyout). This got me to thinking. The Pacers have some good players that would help deepen our bench and give us youth and/or financial wiggle room starting next year. I have come up with a couple trade scenarios that would give the Suns what they need (a back-up PG and another big, plus filler or fillers). I'm also gonna say although I'm not a big fan of Tinsley (and that's ONLY becuase of health concerns and not ability).
#1. Barbosa/Diaw for Tinsley/Foster/Graham/Williams
This deal gives the Suns a back-up in Tinsley, a very good rebounding and defending big in Foster (expiring), a young up and comer sf/pf in Graham (expiring) and a semi-headcase that we could do whatever with in Williams (expiring).
#2. Barbosa/Diaw/Tucker (or Strawberry) for Tinsley/Dunleavy/Graham
This deal gives us Tinsley, our future SF (who would be excellent in our system in Dunleavy, and again a young up and comer sf/pf in Graham (expiring)
#3. Barbosa/Diaw/Tucker (or Strawberry) for Tinsley/Murphy and either Rush or Hibbert
This brings back Murphy (his deal as well as Tinsley's are the both one year shorter than Diaw and Barbosa's deals) but we gain another big time prospect.
These are just a few scenarios that IMO would help the Suns with what we need AND would help the Pacers in what they need and want.

Re: Pacer Deal?
Pass on anything that gets us Tinsley while giving them Barbosa...
The reason we want a vet PG in the first place is so Barbs can go mental as the scorer off the bench like he did 2 years ago. We need a pass first PG to compliment him, he is damn near unstoppable when he has a PG giving it to him - hence his numbers as a starter alongside Nash being awesome.
Put it this way, would you rather a bench of
Diaw
Barbosa
DJ
Barnes
Tucker
Lopez
or
Tinsley
Foster
Graham
Williams
Tucker
Lopez
etc etc
I'd rather stick with what we have, though if we could dump Diaw for a shorter deal I'd be all for it for obvious reasons

Yeah trade 1 kills our bench quality skill-wise...I like 2 a lot (Duke) but IND doesn't give up Dunleavy or Murphy for that matter...I believe they even said the 2 untouchables were Granger and Dunleavy and I feel like they aren't gonna replace Murphy with Diaw.

Re: Pacer Deal?
First, I think the IND FO is just saying that they aren't going to buyout Tinsley so people feel more like packaging players and picks to try and help them unload their roster.
Fact of the matter is that they will have to buy someone out and although Tinsley is due more than several other players, he is the one they really want gone.
I looked at the numbers and I just can't figure out anything that is palatable for the Suns. If we sent Diaw for two players, that would be great for us except that Tinsley would have to be included and his contract is for 3 more years at around 20 million.... the Suns just wouldn't swallow that pill.
I guess, in short, I'm with TASTIC on this one.

Re: Pacer Deal?
Diaw for Tinsley + Second + Filler. No other deal can even be brought up that the Suns would agree to. We want NOTHING to do with Williams, and even more so if we are giving up Barbosa. Unless there's a third team added, it's going to be Diaw for Tinsley + Fillers (pick(s) and or player(s)). There will be no talk of Diaw going to Indiana.. at all.

Nah no trades, just sign Jason Williams or wait for Marbury. Sign Dragic and a scrub (Melvin Ely anyone?)

Jason Williams signed with the Clippers, who I think could give you guys a run for your money in the Pacific division this year.
I wouldn't give up any draft picks in a Tinsley/Diaw deal considering Boris has a significantly worse contract. If something were to happen, it would most likely be Tinsley/Graham for Diaw.

Re: Pacer Deal?
yah, a straight up deal tinsley/graham for diaw sounds good to me, just for the point that we can´t sign a veteran pg. and diaw is imo a scrub... give tinsley a new chance and we´ll see what happens..

Props to the great one

Re: Pacer Deal?
Diaw's not a scrub at all. He's one of the more versatile players in the league. Main problem is he only plays to his potential in certain offenses. Tinsley could play well but is a BIG gamble.

Re: Pacer Deal?
Yeah, I feel the same way about rather having Tinsley especially if he can play like he was playing last time he was healthy (early last season I believe)...my opposition however is that getting someone older and injury prone etc like Tinsley doesn't help an already narrow window of opportunity. If Diaw performed as he had previously then we would actually have a good long term investment, so it almost seems worth it to keep him until February and then get someone like Tinsley for the playoffs if Diaw continues to suck.
