Fran Vazquez Decision
Is it true that he decided to not go to the NBA after Orlando drafted him because his girlfriend told him not to?

Re: Fran Vazquez Decision
He used being drafted into the NBA as leverage to get more money out of his Spanish club...
Hes a scumbag and i feel bad for Orlando having drafted him after he told them he had intentions to come over and play

I've been reading this in Spanish forums for ages, but I don't know if it's true.
Anyway, googling "fran vazquez" and "girlfriend" shows some amusing results. If you speak Spanish you can also try with "fran vazquez" and "novia".

Actually he decided to stay in Europe because a spanish team offered him €1.5M/year (After taxes)
The girlfriend story has always been present in the internet though

He used the leverage to get more money but part of the decision was that his gf told him she didnt want to go to the states. Sadly he is whipped. And she aint all that either.

He sucks and the magic shouldn't have drafted him. Anyways he is an **** for telling them he was coming over and then pulling a deal with his club.

Re: Fran Vazquez Decision
FWIW, he was never sure of anything, as any GM doing his homework should have known at the time.
There have been reports and interviews about him for months, and it was clear the NBA wasn't his dream, just a possibility.
Sadly Orlando's management didn't even consider that a lottery pick could have snubbed the NBA, just like Atlanta's thought Childress wasn't going anywhere.

There were mixed signals. There were reports that he visited some NBA teams to do workouts. I do agree that the Magic didnt do their homework entirely.

That or if the Magic are in the top ten he could even go before that...
In all seriousness though, how long is he contracted through his Euro club? I don't believe Orlando will buy out his contract over that at this point, but when his contract is up, I wouldn't be suprised in the least if they tried to bring him over, stick him in the D-League for a season to see what he has to offer. From what I here, his skill set might work well with Dwight's awesomeness...
Maybe he comes over eventually and shines. I mean, we see what happens when you bring in a raw Euro big man

or...

oh and...

Just a couple of them that came over to early, and turned out to not be worth where they were drafted...

Re: Fran Vazquez Decision
I thought he had this season coming up and another, but I believe that it might only be this one last season and then he has fulfilled his contract...either way, if he does end up coming over, I dont believe Orlando will put him in the D-League, I believe they will implement him right away, he will have had however many years of professional experience at that point and will be, 26?
