Re: Iguodala wants 6/75 per CSN
Suns fan here, but also a big fan of iggy ever since he came into the league.
I think him asking for $14Mil is too much, but it's just part of the negotiation process. If he asked for 12, the Sixer's probably would've given it to him. In the end, he would probably end up signing for about $13Mil a year, which is above what he's worth but being the franchise player, he should be paid a little bit more.
But whatever he's paid (hopefully under 14), I think it would be a good deal, I have a good feeling he's going to be a lot more productive this coming season with Brand. His FG% and 3FG% should probably increase now that you guys have a real post player, giving the shooters more space to operate.
Goodluck next season.

Hope you are right- it will be good to be rooting for a relevant team again, and looking forward to watching Brand go to work.

As for the Suns- what do you see as their long term plan in building around Amare/ You got to think Shaq was partly a move to clear the 20M in 2010 (along with Nash.) Of course Amare can hit the market that summer too. Any indications about where that team is headed? Hopefully not totally abandoning the uptempo system, but I guess that is somewhat reliant an Nash.

It was also a Win-Now move, it wasn't the offense of the Phoenix Suns that stalled. In any NBA contender, you need 1 big man and one solid defensive wing man. Sadly, Diaw's a scrub. Hill and Bell are mega old. I'm not sure if PHX would've been significantly under the cap if Marion had expired, so I think that they made the right move. You just wonder how they're gonna get that defensive winger they need.

Diaw is soft, Hill is still serviceable but won't be for much longer, and Bell has declined a fair bit from the previous season. You're right, Marion expiring wouldn't have given the Suns that much room to move financially anyway. We already got Matt Barnes who we hope could give us a bit of defense and 3pt shooting, but for a min contract whatever he gives offensively or defensively would be great. It's just a bit frustrating when our front office is so incompetent most of the time. We lost J-Will who we were looking at, lost Lue and our Euro prospect who we traded a pick and cash to move up 2 spots for, MAY or MAY NOT come. This kind of incompetence is going to hurt us, especially with young teams like Blazers and Hornets doing big things.
Most Suns fans are thinking in 2010 our front office (if they are smart) would give Amare a max contract. Nash will either retire or sign for something around vet min-MLE. With both Shaq and Nash's contract gone, we have room to sign a big FA. But we also feel that this season our window of opportunity is going to close. Thus signing Amare in 2010 will be the start of, in a sense, rebuilding.
It was a real smart move to lock Lou Williams and Iggy to long term deals. I followed Lou when he was drafted but I didn't think much of him, but after this season, he could definitely do big things for Philly. If everything does to plan Philly is going to be a top 5 team in the east, and with teams like Detroit aging real quickly it won't be as hard for young teams like you guys to take the top position in the next few seasons.

Man, I'm gonna miss playing the In Prime Phoenix Suns. That team was sweet. Robert Horry cost them a championship by being a gangster IMO. Just sad. That 2007 Suns team should have won it all.

Teege (Philly): Chad... what in the world is Andre Iguodala thinking? Reports came out yesterday that he wants a 5 year/$70MIL deal ($14 MIL per). That's higher than the extensions signed by Martin, Jefferson, Okafor, Ellis, Biedrins, and Deng. Shouldn't the Sixers investigate S&T scenarios before giving that kind of bank for Dre???
SportsNation Chad Ford: I know Iguodala wants more than those guys. Most of the NBA GMs I spoke with think he's worth more than Deng, Biedrins, Okafor and Ellis ... but not quite that much more. Something in the $12 to $13 million a year range. I think this one will get done. The Sixers offer is already very rich ... at the end of the day, I don't see Iguodala leaving all that money on the table for a second straight year.

You don't read the boards either eh? TGP's question was discussed a couple pages back in this thread as well as the Free Agent thread...

lol. In the minds of many suns fans, we were the champions in 2007. Oh well, guess i'll have to wait for the Amare era if we lose again in 09.

Doesn't the Sixers still need a 3pt shooter? Who are you guys looking at for that?

Right now, we have Kareem Rush, Louis Williams and Willie Green as our main rotational shooters with Ivey coming off for spot minutes.(I'd include Smith, but he's injured). But yeah, I'd love to get a pure 2nd sniper in. Phoenix could use some toughness and rebounding in the middle when Amare takes a rest.
Evans/Green for Barbsosa and a filler?

Personally don't like Green, never thought he was a good pick and he probably won't crack our rotation, especially if we're going to be giving our rooks from last year some PT. I like Evans but not for the price of Barbs and a filler.

Re: Iguodala wants 6/75 per CSN
You never thought that a guy who puts up 12 points a game and was taken in the middle of the second round was a good pick? Only 5 guys drafted after Green are still in the NBA. Any time you pick a kid in the second round and he becomes a rotation player, it's a good pick. Liking him as a player or the idiotic contract Billy King gave him is another story.

A crazy thing happened last year... Green went from possibly the worst SG in the NBA to just a bad back up SG.
Having said that, he really shouldn't be in anyone's rotation.

Re: Iguodala wants 6/75 per CSN
Now, I dislike Willie as a starter as much as the next guy, but a bad back up SG?
Name me 20 other back up SGs better than Green based on actual performance - Green put up 12.5 points in under 27 minutes, he played passable defense, he shot 44% from the field and 76% from the line on a team where open looks were hard to come by.
If it wasn't for Billy King giving Green an idiotic contract, and if he filled a role he should be filling - as a back up SG who comes in for offense, his production is actually pretty decent.
The problem is that King gave a back up SG without any special skills a crazy contract - he did this with Greg Buckner, McKie, Snow, etc., etc., etc. and that Green was forced into a starting role, which isn't ideal for a 6-3 1/2 SG without legitimate 3 point shooting skills, point guard skills, or defensive shut down ability.
But strictly based on his skill set and his contract aside, Green is a decent back up SG. The problem is that he doesn't fit so well here - not with Williams serving as our offensive punch off the bench, Iggy and Miller being our starting guards, with neither being able to shoot, and Young as our SF, who also isn't a shooter or a ball handler.

Re: Iguodala wants 6/75 per CSN
Code: Select all
Name TEAM Earned OpnMrkt RFA
Andre Iguodala PHi 11.396 14.75 14.257
Andre Iguodala PHi 12.96 14.926 14.89
Example (Andre Iguodala Tier I player)
So if you take these salary indicators and take Andre into a Restricted Free Agent role.
5yrs x 14.895 = 74.475 Million for the 2007/8 season
Code: Select all
As an example Louis Williams (Tier III Player x 66.7%)
Name TEAM Earned OpenMarket RFA
Louis Williams PHI 6.854 7.723 8.19
Louis WIlliams (7.723 x .667)= 5.15 x 5 years = 25.75million
Technically Philly got what appears to have been a great deal because many times Louis Agent wouldve asked the 8.194 divisor be used.
So to wrap it up I do not believe Andre wants 6/75 I would bet more like 5/75 or 6/88

Back up implies not being a starter, so I will include super 6th men. If not, I can just include the player who starts ahead of them...
