I just had to ask

Post#1 » by iamworthy » Fri Aug 8, 2008 3:16 am

What is going on with the lack of respect for Bynum. Can someone please explain to me how a guy thats never played in a NBA Game somehow is rated better than a guy that has (Oden). Or at least thats the verdict here on RealGM. When giving the minutes Bynum, as you guys know has shown what he could do. He Abused Kaman, Amare, Jermaine O'Neal, Andrew Bogut and Im sure a few others. Im not saying he is the best center in the league but the lack of respect is ridiculous. Again, if I am way off base on this someone please let me know. Oden is coming of Micro-Fracture and is still getting more love? I read an article on FoxSports and they were rating the best centers in the league and didnt have Bynum in the poll, but they had Oden. Am I over-rating him? Bynum has good footwork, soft hands, and a soft touch. When I speak about Bynum, its not a prediction, or something that I heard through the grapevine, Its something that I have seen. He is the real deal.

people are strange things, they'll believe what they want, and rarely is there anything you can do to change their minds

right now its all talk, no point in losing sleep over it, just believe what you want, let them believe what they want, and the truth will out!

or something like that

I'll say what I've said since before they drafted him — he'll be a top 3 center for the duration of his career. The guy is a beast, and he just started to realize that himself right before he got injured. Oden Schmoden. I'd like to see him play an NBA game before he gets any of my respect. And you know he'll hit the wall after about 45 NBA games. The 2009-10 season, maybe.

What was it, 19ppg and 13rpg for the month of January? I'd say that's quite alright for a puppy center. What sets Bynum apart from most big men today isn't just his physique and his back to the basket game. His true strong suit is his psyche and his brains. The kid is smart as hell and has a unique combination of great touch and great power. Next season, we'll see the fruits of it all on the court.

M.I.P.O.Y. to Bynum is a lock in my book. He will dominate.

Plus, Bynum is about 15 years younger than Oden anyway.

:lol: :lol:

The defining moment to me for Bynum was when he got dunked on by Shaq infront of the a sell out crowd at the Staple Center, fell on the ground, picked himself up, ran down the court, called for the ball, and abused shaq with the footwork and dunk. That was when I said, "this kid is fo'real".

The thing here is, people see franchise player potential in Oden, whereas for Bynum the best they see is an allstar on a position that doesn't have much competition. It's up to Bynum to prove them wrong.

This is why Bynum will be a beast and play as one. It's quite clear he's not going to be mentioned with the supposedly up and coming centers of the league. Relax people because we'll have a great time laughing at all the doubters and haters when it's all said and done.

That's part of my thinking about the topic. For me, they just see "Lakers" on his P&G jersey and the auto-hate comes out. If he was rockin' another team jersey (God forbid) he'd get more respect. The P&G jersey is a target everywhere

...and I'm proud to wear P&G armor everywhere!

I don't think the "pundits" on Foxsports are responding to this board. Just a guess...

A lot of journalists are that stupid, that they shouldn't be allowed to write a single word ! :lol:

E.g.

Beijing 2008 - Superstars: Kobe Bryant

Eurosport - Wed, 06 Aug 14:40:00 2008

Having learned finally to share the ball,
Kobe Bryant is poised to lead the United States' charge for Olympic basketball gold in Beijing.
-

I laughed all day ! :lol: :lol:

The journalist who wrote that either is stupid, or he's another one dumb Kobe hater ? :D

So with Bynum. I just don't pay attention anymore to such comments because I know what Bynum is capable of ! It's just a waste of time and nerves. Why to get angry at a stupid journalist who writes things he thinks he knows, but actually he doesn't. :D

Why does Oden look so old ? Did he have problems with graduation ? J/k !

I'm serious, usually afro-americans look younger for a longer period of time. It's not Oden's case.

Yeah, I don't get all the Oden hype when he hasn't even played a game. First of all, I saw him in college a bunch of times, and he didn't show to many skills. I think he's going to be a good defensive player, but he doesn't have the skills offensively that Bynum does. Oden has one move, a little turn around hook.. and it misses most of the time. We saw what happened with Chris Kaman and his "one move" that Bynum figured out 3 minutes into the game.

Looking forward to opening night. I wanted the Celtics opening night in Boston, but that's alright. Seeing Drew vs Oden is going to be good to.

i'm just looking forward to seeing a bynum and oden matchup for years. anyone who followed the lakers over the last couple of years are clued into why lakers fans are excited about bynum. oden was super hyped coming out of high school, college and going into the draft and bynum received NONE of that hype.

I think its a bit of over-hype of Oden. Some of the hype is definitely deserved, he's very athletic for his size. He did abuse Noah and Horford in that final game so he's shown he can play against good players. He also showed a lot of potential talent shooting his free throws left handed and hitting a high percentage.

I think a lot of people underestimate Bynums athleticism. A lot of people see him as a stiff and Oden as the athletic one but I don't think thats the case. Watch Bynum's making of a Beast video, he's quite athletic and skilled for his size. He's got a lot of offenseive skill as well, shoots FTs well, has a decent jumper, can drive it or slash to a good degree, and has really developed those hook shots. He's also developed his defensive timing on blocking shots nicely. Timing is crucial to avoid lots of fouls.

Oden, does seem to be a bit more athletic then Drew, but its not by a ton. Right now though Drew has some advantages.

1. His injury is less serious.
2. He has years of experience and conditioning that Oden doesn't.
3. He has a more developed offensive game and a better coach (Jabbar)

From all the reports so far, Andrew is healthy and getting stronger. I think he will continue on the same effort he put in last year and be quite good this year. With Pau and Odom to help him out he also has less pressure then Oden. Oden also sounds like he has been lifting and bulking up. These two guys could be epic. It sounds like they may be coming into the season both around
7'1 280.

Oden will probably end up being a better defensive player, but I'm not sure he will ever be a great post player other then lots of dunks off lobs and passes. That remains to be seen, where as Drew has shown he can score efficiently with his back to the basket.

I'm not saying that any of these guys are this good, or will be this good, but I see it shaping out kind of like this:

Oden = David Robinson
Howard = Shaq
Bynum = Duncan

If I had to compare them to recent great centers that's what they remind me of. Oden is very athletic and seems to be the great defensive and rebounding type guy and a capable, if not slightly awkward offensive player. Howard is the physical freak that will dominate both sides but can't shoot FT's and has a very basic offensive game. Bynum, the least athletic of the 3, is the most solid, fundamental, and well rounded.
