The lakers do not need another big man odom will slide to the 4 and gasol will slide to the 5 spot and mihm will get little minuets at center and vlade will get some mins at the 4. Mitchell is a strong guard who drives to the basket and he impressed me with his defense . remember when fisher was in foul trouble vs utah in the second round and farmar was to weak to handke wiliams well dwayne can guard him

I think the Mitchell connection and signing is soley based on Mr. Bryant's pending surgery after the Olympics. I don't think Kobe will play one pre-season game and that Sasha, Crawford and Mitchell will get lots of minutes in the preseaon at Kobe's spot on the floor.

Nothing more of a depth move, that will determine the third string 2 Gurad Crawford, Mitchell or Coby Karl for that matter.

Will Dwayne Mitchell make the team

Post#24 » by bynumite120 » Wed Aug 6, 2008 8:51 pm

Remember when we were playing the jazz in the playoffs and when fisher was on the bench or in foul trouble d-will killed us, well i think mitchell can be a defensive specialist and if he improves his ft% he could contribute i will take him over crawford because we need defense not offense and crawford wont get minuets because he is solely a sg and mitchell is a combo guard. discuss

I see flashes of Josh Smith and Kenyon Martin. I hope he becomes a more polished player under Phil. My only concern is Phil's reluctance to play younger players, at least not until they have proved their metal in practice. I hope this does not turn out to be another one of those bench players that he won't use for two years.

"Dwayne Mitchell: Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the contract is believed to be more than a training camp invitation. "It really hasn't set in, really hasn't hit me that I have this opportunity," Mitchell said from his home in Louisiana. "I don't think it will hit me until I'll step on the court." Mitchell was considered a draft prospect after his junior season. A slashing-style guard, he led Louisiana-Lafayette in scoring, rebounding, steals and assists in his final season and helped his team to the NCAA Tournament twice. Mitchell's performance in the D-League caught the Lakers' attention and they invited him to join their Summer Pro-League team in Las Vegas this year. He averaged 6.7 points on 61.9 percent shooting, 1.5 rebounds and one assist in six games. Mitchell knows his spot isn't guaranteed. But then again, as he points out, is anything?" -Orange County Register
